Which Final Fantasy job would you (like to) have?

FelixSH

(He/Him)
Assuming you were inside a Final Fantasy game, and you, the person you are now, could choose a job of any Final Fantasy game - which one would you choose? The only rule is, that it needs to be a named job in any FF game.

Also, maybe more interesting, which FF job would fit you the most? So, not which one would be the one you prefered to have, but which one would fit your actual job / personality the best? Like, a nurse would probably fit the White Mage job the best, even if that person would really love to be a dragoon.

Feel free to interpret the jobs a bit. Like, a dragoon implies to me, that the person also has dragon. One, that he could jump onto, and then do a divejump onto the enemy from the dragons back. Not canonical in FF, but would be really cool.

If I phrased that in a too complicated way, just go with your guts, and answer the question you thought I asked. I'm mainly interested in your reasoning, more than in the job itself.

I need to think about the answer myself, which is why I can't give you the answer now. But later on, I will.

I'm already a musician, so being a bard wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

did i do all of that?

White Mage or Astrologian, so I can control life and death of my party (you pull the boss early and you're a DPS? You can lie there until the rest of us beat the boss. Enjoy!).

As for FF3 or 5... I'd say I'd probably like to be a Dragoon. Cool armor and such, jumping around seems neat.

It's hard to say no to the ability to alter reality via the power of mathematics, but if I'm going for pure real-life utility, it's hard to beat a White Mage.

Sadly, you can only become an Arithmetician by putting in a lot of work into the base Magic jobs first, and I probably don't have the patience to be a White Mage.

OTOH, there is no official job described as "works for Cid Garlond" but I can definitely get my foot in the door with Machinist.

I hear this local power company is offering internships. They seem pretty nice.

Hmmm... I remember Magic Knight sucking, but it sounds most like what I'd be into...

Maybe I'll go with summoner. Some of the most powerful magic, covers most types, and also very cool.

As an extremely lazy person, the Summoner's gimmick of getting other people/creatures to do all the heavy lifting for me has tremendous appeal. I strike a cool pose, bring out a fuck-off enormous dragon and step back while it nukes the battlefield, and then I get all the credit once the battle's over. If we're talking PS1 era I can probably even sneak in a quick nap during the summoning animation. What's not to like?

Probably like, mime or dancer. I'm weird, vaguely athletic and enjoy performance.

In my own [final] fantasy though, monk. I just think they're neat!

I feel like I'm *kind of* good at a lot of things but not especially great at any of them, so probably a Red Mage. I actually kind of like being a C grade MacGyver and Red Mage gets a cool hat so I'll probably stick with that.

Calculator is probably closest for me as well, and it does have a good bit of appeal what with the ability to destroy or heal everybody via gremlin-y computational shenanigans.

Also pretty attracted to Summoner and Red Mage for the reasons others listed. And both have cool outfits.

OTOH, it's also tempting to say fuck it all and go with Sky Pirate.

Most closely aligned with my real job would be Scholar. I'd probably want to either be a Paladin or a Martial Artist. The former matches my personality type - others would probably say I'm a little too goody goody - and the latter always appealed to me regardless. Unarmed combat is amazing. Of course, my lack of exercise and training would keep me from remotely achieving either of those.

I raid Savage and Ultimate on Gunbreaker in FFXIV so…

But honestly I play all of the tanks so any of them would be fine: Paladin, Warrior, Dark Knight, or the aforementioned Gunbreaker.

They share all the same gear after all…

Yeah, Red Mage would probably be my choice as well; overspecializing in real life tends to pigeonhole you pretty badly, but specializing in "magic" in general would give you a huge amount of flexibility even with just basic access to elemental spells and healing.

This is a fun question!

For me, the answer really depends on a lot of variables.

Am I the main character in this hypothetical? Because of so, I'd go with a suitably heroic job you'd typically see a main character play as. Your Dragoons, Knights, Samurai, etc. Someone who mains a sword and hits ppl with it while looking really cool.

Am I not the main character? Then this is where things start being more fun. If I'm not aware that I'm not the main character like I've been isekai'd into this game and don't know what's going on and could possibly die in here, I'm picking a job that helps me survive. Either by being the tankiest mofo around like a Paladin, or a stealthy/slippery job like Ninja or Rogue to just avoid people/things all together.

If I'm aware I'm a supporting character? Then I go with what's the most fun to me. And usually in most games that entails being a ranged fighter, sniping from long distance in relative safety. So I'd go with an Archer or a Machinist/Gunner to nail people with bows or guns.

Listen to me. You're a Bard. You've always been a Bard.

Get ready for your next Bard revamp.

Dark Knight!
big sword, tough, angry, strong when angry, often forgets to die
seems like a cool deal to me
i spend like 50% of my time angry at the failures of polite society to take care of people, so there's your justification

I've thought about this before, probably more than an adult should. Red Mage is the answer I wanna give; they use swords (cool) and rapiers in XIV (very cool, I tend to like rapier users for some reason) and magic, and they LOOK cool. XIV Red Mages do backflips and magic sword stuff and it's all super cool. Plus cool hats and capes. Plus they get a bit of everything; healing, swords, magic. They can do it all, which I like. Red Mages rule.

But the answer that probably makes more sense is either...White Mage or Chemist? Like I'm not a literal Chemist, but I am a nurse, and Chemists are good at using items and I give lots of medicine to patients so...yeah? But I think you could argue for White Mage too. I mean, that's my main in XIV so...there's precedent here.

...but the actual answer is Dark Knight. I like classes that can do a bit of everything, Dark Knights can use magic and attack with big swords, I was way into Big Sword classes when I was younger, but MOSTLY it's

YUP!!!!! And the anger only makes me stronger

White Mage is what I'd be there, no question. Anyone who's had to endure me in XIV might know this. What fits me? It might still be the same, if the concern for the body the WHM holds follows to the mind and mental health of those they're concerned with, since that's what I'm trained for.

Don't get me wrong. I'd be perfectly happy being a Holy Swordsman. It's just that I see a lot more numbers than swords in my day-to-day.
