Does FF7R count as FF7? You decide.

I left off FF11 despite it being released on multiple platforms because if you played it for any length of time, you paid for it more than once. In penance, I have also omitted FFT.

For me:

  • FF1: NES, GBA (Dawn of Souls), Wii (NES VC)
  • FF2: GBA (Dawn of Souls)
  • FF3: DS, PC (Pixel Remaster)
  • FF4: PSX (Chronicles), DS
  • FF5: I'm not sure I've ever purchased this one
  • FF6: SNES, SNES Classic
  • FF7: PSX
  • FF8: PSX
  • FF9: PSX
  • FF10: PS2, PC (HD/International)
  • FF12: PS2, PC (Zodiac Age)
  • FF13: 360, PC (but it kept crashing, so I refunded it, so it doesn't count)
  • FF15: PC

1-7 and 12. I could probably count 10 and 15 in spirit as well; I only paid for each of them once, but that was after being given copies of them as gifts prior.

(he, him, his)
1 - NES and PS1 re-release
4 - SNES and PS1 re-release
6 - SNES and PS1 re-release

I'll probably be adding the Pixel Remasters to those counts (and others) at some point in time.

What's Shenmue?
Um… none, actually. Every time I've gone back and replayed one, I've just dug out my old copy and system. Though it helps that I'm a relative newcomer to the franchise and haven't had any real opportunity to be tempted by ports.

FF1: NES, PSone (Origins), GBA, Wii, PSP, Android (Old)
FF2: PSone (Origins), GBA, PSP, Android (Old)
FF3: DS, Android (3D)
FF4: SNES, GBA, DS, Android (3D)
FF5: PSone, GBA, Android (Old)
FF6: SNES, PSone, GBA
FF7: PSone, PSP (via PSone Classics), PS4
FF9: PSone, PS4
FF10: PS2, PS4
FF12: PS2, PS4
FFT: PSone, PSP, Android

Basically everything from VI to XII. IV and V are good and all but they're just not quite for me and I don't care to go back to anything older than that. I wouldn't have actually bought XII more than the first time if not for how much more interesting the license board is in Zodiac Age, I kinda despise some of its narrative choices.

I might've ended up getting Lightning Returns a second time if I hadn't skipped it on PS3. I had so much more fun with it than the other two.

I got 6 on PS1 and GBA, 8 on PS1 and Vita, 10 on PS2 and Vita, and 12 on PS2 and Switch. 6 and 8 I’ve actually played both versions, 10 and 12 I’ve only played on PS2.

None, which is not an option sadly?

I think I might have bought Tactics twice, but that was because the disc was broken or something so eh.

Of these, 15 is the only one that I haven't.

I: 3x
II: 2x
III: 2x
IV: 6x
V: 3x
VI: 3x
VII: 2x
VIII: 3x
IX: 2x
X: 2x
XII: 2x
XIII: 2x

In general, I buy them a second time for a more convenient access; my PC is functionally eternal compared to consoles, so in many cases I've repurchased them there. Other times, I've been enticed by new features or versions that differ enough from the original that I want to experience them.

IV is such a breezy replay and the versions all differ quite a bit, so I've bought and played it a ton, as you can see.

VIII is a weird case where there are two versions available on Steam. Had I known the remaster would happen, I probably would never have bought the original PC port.

FF1: NES and PS (Final Fantasy Origins). This one might not count, as I didn't buy the NES copy with my own money (I was 6)
FF4: SNES, GBA, and the iOS release of the 3D remake.
FF6: SNES, GBA, and a SNES Classic
FF7: PS1, PS4 remaster. (I also bought remake but it's a different game)
FF8: PS1, Switch remaster
FF9: PS1, PS4 remaster
FF10: PS2, Switch remaster
FF12: PS2, PS4 remaster
FF13: X360, Xbox Series X
FF15: PS4, toon-edition Switch version

The only thing keeping me from re-purchasing 2, 3, and 5 is that I'm waiting for an announcement of a console port of pixel remasters. If that hasn't happened by the time I finish Lightning Returns and the XV post-game, I will begrudgingly return to touchscreen Final Fantasy.

FFIV: GBA and Wii VC.
FFVII: PC, PS3 (PS1 Classic) and PS5 (Remake).
FFVIII: PC and PS3 (PS1 Classic).
FFX: PS3 and PS4.

I think FFIV is the one I'm most open to buying again because its short and sweet. I don't need any more RPG time sinks in my life right now.

4 - SNES and PS1 re-release
6 - SNES and PS1 re-release

Almost same, except swap 1-NES (I played a friend’s copy but never bought it) for GBA (dawn of souls), and likewise I get 2 in with GBA/PS1.

It feels weird for someone who’s been an FF fan since forever that my numbers are so low, but I just don’t tend to re-buy games much, especially as an adult with less free time.

I have 3 for Chrono Trigger though, SNES/PS1/DS.

All of them except XV and, for some reason, IX.

I am counting games I received reviewables of many years ago as "bought," because I would have bought them.

EDIT: Actually, looks like I got IX on Steam at some point, so all except XV.

I've bought all of them more than once except FF15.

FF4 is the one I've bought the most; 5 or 6 times, I believe.

Everything except 13 and 15. 😬
Same. I still haven't bought 13 at all.
Trying to think which one I've bought the most.

It has to be 6, I think. Had it on SNES, Wii VC, Playstation, GBA, SNES Classic, and the Pixel Remaster.

...Huh. Weirdly, I think I've only ever bought one of them twice, and that was 6. And that's only because it was in the PS1 release that I picked up for FF5.

That said, I plan on getting the pixel remasters if they ever come to Switch, or possibly elsewhere, so that would add FF3 and FF5 to the mix, as I bought them on DS and PS1 respectively. I know I've never bought 1 or 2, and pretty sure I never bought 4 - the first time I played it was when I emulated it in college.

Haven't bought any of the remasters of 7-10, I have the FF12 remaster on my wish list but haven't pulled the trigger, which would make that a second purchase. Bought 13 once, relatively recently, and haven't bought a 15 yet.

Stealing Mogri's formatting:
  • FF1: NES, GBA (Dawn of Souls), PSX (Origins), Android
  • FF2: PSX (Origins), GBA (Dawn of Souls)
  • FF3: DS, Android (3D)
  • FF4: SNES, GBA, DS, PSP (Complete Collection)
  • FF5: GBA
  • FF6: SNES, GBA
  • FF7: PC
  • FF8: PSX, Steam
  • FF9: PSX, Steam
  • FF10: PS2, PS3 (HD Remaster)
  • FF12: PS2
  • FF13: PS3
  • FF15: PS4
I think that's every time I've paid for the games. I've also played various fan-translations via emulation and I borrowed the PSX versions of 5 and 6 from my college roommate.

Also, I've purchased Final Fantasy Adventure / Sword of Mana / Adventures of Mana at least 4 times, too.

I: GBA/PS1
II: see I
III: DS
IV: PS1
V: PS1
VI: GBA/PS1
VII: PS1/PC (PS4/PS5 if you count 7R which I don't)
VIII: PS1/PC/Steam
IX: PS1
X: PS2/PS3/PS4
XI: PS2/PC
XII: PS2/PS3/PS4
XIII: PS3
XIV: PS3/PC
XV: PS4 x2 (Royal Edition)

I have played through 1-6 on their native platforms, but never *bought* them; just borrowed from friends or The Internet.

I'd love to replay XIII and then dig into its sequels on PS5 some day. And it's too bad SE's plan on making a single player game out of XI fell through because I would have been all over that. (Though I assume they cancelled the project because they realized it would take too much work bringing the game and its story up to modern standards.)
