What Is the Best Video Game Title?

Beowulf

Son of The Answer Man
(He/Him)
Are we not including the works of Nice Code in this discussion?

Because if not, my vote goes to Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
I saw the thread title and Sprite already answered it; if course it’s No One Can Stop Mr. Domino

gogglebob

The Goggles Do Nothing
(he/him)
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion tells you everything you need to know about who is our protagonist, and what he is up to. The likes of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 can only dream of such simplicity.

Beta Metroid

At peace
(he/him)
Diddy's Kong Quest: A title so good, it tricks people into thinking it's something else!

Also Sonic 3 Sonic the Hedgehog & Knuckles.

Todd's Adventures in Slime World tells you who the hero is (Todd), where he is (Slime World), and what he's doing there (adventuring). It is remarkably thorough in its parsimoniousness.

Klax and Plok! are excellent 4 letter nonsense words.

Shatterhand provides a viceral mental image of brutal violence, but leaves open the question of whose hand will shatter who.

DGitAA only has 2 of those 3 pieces of data.

I think we can all agree that the Kingdom Hearts series is a leader in titling games.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is my personal favorite. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is pretty good too.

I also like King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne.

I've been spending a lot of time with the Taito Egret II mini, and Violence Fight really speaks to me as a title.

It certainly makes you wonder what a Nonviolence Fight would look like, that's for sure.

Sarcasmorator

Same as I ever was
(He/him)
There's some scene I can't quite remember where it's two guys having a very intense competition that I'd categorize as a nonviolence fight. They're in like a cafe or something and it's something involving a drink? Trying to get it from the other without spilling it. Vague memory.

conchobhar

What's Shenmue?
When it comes to names that are silly, charming and just fun to think about, I'm partial to Cookie's Bustle and Tama: Adventurous Ball in Giddy Labyrinth. And of course in terms of sheer outrageousness, there's the Slam Masters/Muscle Bomber series: Saturday Night Slam Masters, Muscle Bomber: The Body Explosion, Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II, Super Muscle Bomber: The International Blowout.

On a more poetic note, I've always thought that Breath of Fire, Star Ocean and Shadow of the Colossus are incredibly evocative names. Heaven Will Be Mine and We Know the Devil are also quite powerful.

I think No Man's Sky is pretty evocative. I dig the wordplay in Satisfactory. All in all, though, it's awfully hard to beat Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.

A Boy and His Blob. What's about? A boy, his blob, and their relationship. And it's a literary reference/pun to boot!

Ooh, I like all these too.

Return of the Obra Dinn isn't a particular standout on its own merits, but it strikes me as a title that's a perfect fit for its work.

Metroid. It's a made-up word, but it's a good-sounding one. Intriguing - Who or what's a metroid? Punchy, memorable. And descriptive, especially since it wears the Alien reference up-front.

Baba is You. Weird grammar, but simple; intriguing. Reflects game mechanics in a way you'd never have guessed without playing (or at least looking into) it.

Untitled Goose Game. Unironically, I love the feel it brings to the game - this is a game about a goose, and it doesn't need a title because it's a game about a goose. Go be a goose, the end.

Shenanigans! The game is clearly Untitled! Flag on the play!
