Share your favorites, the very best ones to watch. Real-time or tool-assisted, old or new, any category, with or without commentary. Just be sure to mention what makes it special.

The first one that comes to mind for me is NEScardinality's Dragon Warrior run. It's like an incredible, half-hour long human TAS. He uses his knowledge of the game's timing and random number table to play it like a fiddle, getting encounters exactly when he wants them, scoring critical hits and dodging attacks at every turn as though he can see the Matrix. It's short, fascinating and kind of unbelievable.

PJ's Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts run from AGDQ 2013 is remarkable because (a) it prioritizes the torch weapon over the dagger (the conventional "best" weapon) and (b) it's a good introduction to everything PJ does being a beautiful nightmare, between the worst luck possible and inexplicable technical mishaps.

Also at AGDQ 2013, PJ and legendary Contra runner Mr. K surprised everyone with a co-op run of Pocky & Rocky, for which they had been training in secret. Pocky & Rocky is basically a shmup, but since there's no auto-scrolling, they're able to use various techniques to speed things up, including abusing what is normally an out-of-control two-person slide to precisely shoot themselves past obstacles and along the terrain. Co-op speed runs are relatively uncommon in general, and this one features cool-looking tech using a mechanic that doesn't exist at all in single-player.

ActRaiser 2 is an often maligned and misunderstood game that PJ has championed for years pretty much by himself. While the game is in fact relentlessly difficult, it is possible to speed along the edge of death using precise technical play. In particular, you are invincible while divebombing until the instant you touch ground, and enemies' hitboxes vanish for an instant every time they take damage; therefore, with keen timing and positioning, you can divebomb into an enemy, then quickly jump and dive again before its hitbox has returned, allowing you to deal tons of damage in short order or just phase through enemies blocking your way. The AGDQ 2019 run on Hard mode is a great showcase of this and many other techniques, featuring eloquent explanations by PJ himself and famed commentator Blechy.

EmptyEye's TMNT (NES) run during the original Classic Games Done Quick is the stuff of legends. While it is by no means the most optimized speedrun of the game, the fact that he was still able to complete it in spite of the hardware dying right before our very eyes is something that has to be seen.

(Remind me to post the video when I get home.) done

Stuff starts getting crazy after the dam level.

Zallard1's blindfolded speedrun of Wii Punch-Out!! has to be on the list of all-time greats, right?

GDQ recently hosted this four-team relay race of Super Mario World in honor of the game's thirtieth anniversary. Runners from North America, South America, Europe, and Japan race through five different categories in succession: 11 Exit (basically any%), Beat Special (just get through Funky), No Star Road No Cape, All Switches (just hit the four switches), and All Castles. Great performances, fun commentary, plenty of upsets and plot twists.

I'm not a hundred percent sure this is technically a speedrun, but damn if this isn't great to watch either way. The other four parts should be easy to find after this.

This was super fun to watch. I'm not sure I'd ever seen those orb tricks before!
