Tell me of thy favourite Olympiad trials in honor of the great Zeus, fellow senators of the Talking Time. I myself enjoy a good chariot race.

Yeesss, the first riff thread. Now it really feels like Talking Time!

It's hard to go wrong with oiled up dudes flexing their glutes as they get ready to throw a discus.

It wasn't introduced to the mid 6th century BCE but the Pankration is where its at. It's basically mixed martial arts but there were almost no rules.

Senators were a roman thing! There were 9 Archons of Athens.

Kóttabos.
You toast someone you like, then spin your kylix around to fling your residue of wine at a little disc mounted atop a slim pole. On success, the disc plummets onto a metal rim to produce a fantastic jangle. Siceliotes seem to have played it while standing, Athenians while reclining.
Because the ancient Greeks were highly civilized, they knew that such a game made a good oracle.

The marathon.

Most sporting events should end with the winner dropping dead, to validate my unwillingness to participate in them.

Athletes always want to thank God for their victory - in that case they could do it in person.
