Vita means Streaming: New Playstation Handheld?

It's probably not what the Vita crowd was hoping for, but Sony may be making a new handheld.

I'd have to see it before I cast judgement. There are already so many retro handhelds, pc handhelds and streaming devices you could run Remote Play on that a dedicated device that can ONLY run Remote Play would need to be pretty darn cheap to be competitive. On the other hand depending on the price and specs I'd be down with a Sony built and branded Android handheld with Remote Play preinstalled, given the build quality in that market can be iffy at times.

Did not expect Sony to make a WiiU tablet for the PS5.

In seriousness I haven't been following Sony much but that's surprising? I mean, it's really just an accessory for the PS5, not it's own handheld?

I could maybe see my wife using that as our ps5 is hooked up to the big tv in the basement but it’s cold down there. That said, I tried setting up streaming to the ps4 for just that reason and it didn’t work at all even wired so color me skeptical.

My experience with Remote Play with the PS5 has been fairly solid at least, granted I've been playing on the same floor as the PS5.

Remote play works excellently on a wired connection. I've played a lot of games (Bloodborne, Phantom Pain, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted stuffs, to name a few) through it on my PC when other family members wanted the living room TV and it works great. The caveat is the wired connection, so I have absolutely no idea how this will work on a portable system that, I assume, will be using Wi-Fi.

I’ve had good luck wired ps4 to PC, but ps5 to ps4 was hot garbo wireless or wired. Probably related to my ps4 never showing download speeds of better than 10 mb/s on my gigabyte internet.

did their best!
This is such a bizarre idea. Both the Switch and Steam Deck are the successors to the Vita, and neither of them rely on a separate device. I cannot imagine who this is for. Like, remote play for devices in the same location is solid, I just don't think a ton of people are going to want a way to walk around with their PS5.

I guess it comes down to price, right? If it's like $100, $150 max, I can see a market for it.

This sounds like the GSync but worse. I assume that this will be a standard android-style tablet-with-controller setup, because anything else doesn't make sense in the market. Either way, the main way this will be a game-changer is that you'll be able to change what game you play on it.

Sounds pretty weird! I’ll be surprised if it only streams PS5 games with no other functionality. We’ll see though.

Like I was saying an Android handheld with an 8 inch screen, a dual sense controller built in, and remote play preinstalled could actually be nice depending on if the specs and price point pair well with it.

A Remote Play only device meanwhile feels like we are treading into Wii U territory, and given how expensive dual sense controllers already are I not sure they could sell that a reasonable price point.

And it works pretty good, even on wireless. I wouldn't use it for an FPS or game that relies on pinpoint inputs but I've played Like A Dragon with acceptable frame drops and blurriness because ultimately hey I'm on mi telefono.

You can get a Retroid Pocket 3+ for about $150 and stream to that just fine, and it has the advantage of being a very competent emulation machine. There's no way this thing will do emulation (for obvious reasons) so it's going to have to be pretty cheap.

Sony did make the Xperia Play, so it's not like they'd never make an open Android handheld, but if the rumors are accurate streaming only sounds like what it is this time at least.
