Untitled Goose Game: “What a mean goose!” “Daddy that was you!”

I’ve started playing Untitled Goose Game on Switch. Seems pretty good so far! For anyone unfamiliar: you play a goose wandering around making people unhappy. Your verbs are walk, run, swim, grab/poke with beak, lower neck, raise wings, and honk.

I’ve been playing with my kids, hence the thread title. I tried to blame my tripping up a child and stealing his glasses on the goose, but they knew who was really responsible. This is making my progress slow, but it seems fairly entertaining for them. I’ve been using the two joycons detached from the console. I keep the right one, with the action buttons, and they take turns with the left, controlling movement and neck lowering. I might see if I can change the button config to get the neck thing on the right controller as well, and then they’ll only have movement to look after.

It's a fantastic game. It's great being a malignant force, although limited to really petty stuff. Lots of games allow you to be horrible, but The Goose is personal about it. It's really charming, and the choice to make it be set in small town England was a good one.

They added two-player support to the Switch version recently. Do you each need two joy-cons?

Re the setting: the developers are Australians; I assumed it was set there. Is there any in-game indication of the setting?

Pretty sure it’s intended as an English village, with the pub and model town and all that. It’s practically Sandford from Hot Fuzz.

I haven’t noticed anything obviously specifically Australian besides the Victorian government logo at the start. I’ll keep an eye out, I guess. Haven’t tried the two player, definitely curious about it. Is it just the same game with two geese, or are there new levels?

Yeah, I remember reading an interview with the developers and they mentioned that they don't have geese there so it was fascinating to imagine them.

And I TOTALLY FORGOT they added 2-player since that was in the thread on the old board, going to download that update right quick.

This game is so good it convinced my girlfriend (who more or less only plays Civilization) to beat it. The joy of being a horrible goose is extremely compelling.

I also highly recommend watching the speedruns of this game from AGDQ earlier this year, if anyone missed them:

How does the 2p work? Is it local, friends-only, or rando matchmaking?

(Also does it allow voice chat if it's not local? I don't even know how voice chat works on the Switch.)

Many months on, my kids and I have finished Untitled Goose Game. It remains fun and charming to the end, though for the final run back to the bell collection I kinda took the controllers off the kids and just did it. Actually I made pretty much all the progress, but the kids had a good time just wandering around and poking at stuff throughout. Lots of honking.

Finishing up unlocked the hidden to-do list, but I’m not sure I feel the need to complete it.

It's never a bad time to play the Untitled Goose Game, and I still haven't done the 2p. Think I might need to redownload this one soon.

I mentioned it in the television thread, but I was incredibly amused when this game cameo'd in The Magicians.

Anyway, I should try out that two-player mode some time...
