Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2: Pretending I’m a superman

Still messing around in the warehouse but it looks and feels great, loads quickly, most of the songs are there. I think they pulled it off, we got a good tony hawk game again.

Yeah, it feels pretty spot on, but I need, need, those THPS3 levels as well.

Oh I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed up as DLC if this sells well.

I bought all of them up through Underground 2 but think I burned myself out a bit on 2 (it’s all we played sophmore year of college) and don’t have the same nostalgia for 3 and up. I like having the revert though, get me those ridiculous combos.

THUG 2 was where I jumped off too, I was never big into Jackass and Bam, so it did nothing for me. 3 was my first Tony Hawk, and I played the heck out it.

THUG2 is honestly a decent jump off point. The mission structure's actually a big improvement but it's kinda the last unambiguously recommendable one, THAW's just burdened down with cruft and the PS360 games' engine never felt as good as the PS2 one (doesn't help those games are buggy and run quite poorly). They'd really needed a back to basics cutback at the time that they'd never have made.

Waiting for my copy to arrive because I went physical like a dang fool.

Activision Blizzard has typically announced the Switch port of their remakes about six months after the release on other consoles. I'm sure it's coming eventually.

I like THUG a lot despite its humor and voice work not aging well at all, but I'd consider getting this if it did come to Switch....but probably used cause fuck Activision Blizzard

THUG 2 is the best Tony Hawk's for me in terms of sheer gameplay; the way it's structured, allowing you free reign to solve the goals as best you can without really holding your hand, is extremely fun and expansive. It's not my favourite one - that will always be THPS3 - but I think it's the ultimate evolution of the gameplay.

This remaster/remake is very impressive but I have to admit that playing it just kind of hurts me because it's not a whole new set of levels, you know? I just want a new Hawks. A really new one.

I get that. Luckily I’ve apparently lost enough memory that I still spent 30 minutes looking for the last bell in the school level yesterday so apparently new enough for my senile ass.

I never played the first two so I have no memory to fall back on, but one thing I noticed is that the bells are all under a light to help them stand out.

That one on the rooftop was a real pain, mostly just trying to figure out out to get up there.

Yeah it was the roof one I was missing. Forgot there was even an area up there.

Mall is great, love the stages that are just built in a line . I’m surprisingly terrible at the first competition stage. These judges have gotten bitter in their old age.

I regret not bringing my PS4 with me to visit family this weekend, because I really want to be playing more of this right now.

The act of playing this game is very comforting to me. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

I briefly played the first one my freshman year in college, but mostly watched others play it. I was rotating between SotN, Soul Reaver, and Final Fantasy VIII, and Tony Hawk wasn't really talked about on TheGIA (of course I was That Guy). I had some friends up in Fraternity Row that would only play Tony Hawk, so I'd try it from time to time, but not long enough to build up muscle memory for any combos. I was more into memorizing the three levels in Q3Test so I could join the NAU Quake Clan [CWA] (stood for Clan of Whoop Ass).

This remake accurately recreates the experience of me not being good at something. I don't think I'll put in the time to figure it out, since I'm no longer in the dorm, neglecting my homework. It's pretty and runs awesome though, as Tony's always glitching out when I crash on every trick.

I still have never played thps2 so im pretty sure ill get this. How nice it is to return to old friends

Having both this and Mario 64 coming out for current gen in the same month sure is an acknowledgement that Late Gen X and early Millennials are in prime childhood nostalgia years.

Is it possible to basically just play Tony Hawk 1 through this by selecting certain levels and music tracks?

jpfriction

(He, Him)
Sure. You do the career of the two games separately and you have full control over what songs are in rotation.
