The Book of Boba Fett (the TV Show, Not the Book)

I thought that was a really cool thing to do; make lots of references to the Maori as a nod to Temuera. I also like the way that Boba's under armour suit is Tusken in origin

The way I see it, there are two probable directions this will go:
1. The tribe was massacred at some point and Boba is the last of them. This would be a bit disappointing.
2. Boba reclaimed his armor and ship because he saw an opportunity to take over as local warlord and protect the tribe, permanently. This is the one I'm hoping for.

Yeah I’ve been thinking #2 there is a likely motivation cause otherwise it just doesn’t seem like a kind of thing he’d have a super pressing reason to do.

And it would also neatly wrap up a few questions from Mando, like why he didn't go after his armor sooner, and why he'd want or need a permanent heavy-hitter of a partner when he's mostly gone solo before.

Well looks like they went for option 1, unless they're going to follow up with a surprise option 2. A little disappointing. I like him getting a rancor though. The chase was a bit low-key, wasn't it?

Yeah, I think it might be the first thing we've seen that the Volume is bad at, because it was slow and dull. There was a lot to love in there - the fight with Krrsantan and the redefinition of the Rancor (!), but that crappy chase taking up so much of the episode took the wind out of it somewhat.

I'm interested in Boba's lack of motivation - he's a bounty hunter because that's what his Dad did (and the implication here that he regrets much of that) and the fact that he seems to have been happy to stay with the Tuskens long term. It might be that becoming a crime lord is the first big decision he's ever made for himself.
He's an interesting character

Yeah, disappointed with the Option 1 development. Lots of other fun stuff though, even gives the two-second shot in RotJ with the Rancor's trainer more context, and I look forward to seeing the results there. Also surprise Danny Trejo!

The cyborg gang is goofy as shit, and playing them almost completely straight is a gutsy choice, but I kind of love them anyway. But I'll admit the long chase scene was pretty much entirely pointless and probably should've been either cut or repurposed.

I like the gang, and even the look of the bikes they're on. It was really just the "kids on scooters" pace of the chase that didn't work for me. It looked like a kids-movie chase, like, uh, Spy Kids. I'm pretty sure those things were on wheels they edited out and that's just how fast they could go. It was only a couple minutes long but felt like longer.

I unno, the skateboard scene had a sense of speed to it.

This felt more like everyone was kind of just jogging along.

The chase was definitely one of the weaker bits of the show so far. But I'm digging it otherwise.

It seems a bit confused on whether Fett is being really naive (as Fennec keeps pointing out) or actually doing it right. (by earning loyalty from his minions) More often than not things go his way, but he still pratfalls hard in really avoidable ways, mostly whenever he takes any obviously dubious characters at their word. (The Pikes? Sure they'll honor the agreement made in haste in the middle of the desert when they had no other options) I'm honestly expecting the Hutts to turn back around and stab Fett in the back and for him to be shocked, shocked, about it.

While he was wrong on that I have the suspicion that he's right on the bigger point. I suspect at least one of the Tuskens isn't dead, and she'll be important in the end. It'll be a bit Mandalorian-y where the people he's helped will come together to overcome a bigger evil. It's a very Lucas thing to do.

Yeah, I noticed not everyone we'd seen was shown dead. And they keep bringing up how Tatooine used to have oceans, AND Boba wants to learn to ride a rancor. I feel like they might end up shifting this story from Lawrence of Arabia into Dune, with Boba leading an army of Tusken tribes against the Pikes, and maybe something with the water.

Spending two episodes developing the Tuskens just to kill them offscreen felt like a really strange choice.

First, I demand a season about the kitchen staff of Java’s Palace

Second; this episode just short of outright stated that Bobas one single skill is Look Imposing, and he is utterly incapable of doing anything else.

I appreciate the series acknowledging that the cool-looking bounty hunter parts of the fandom has been obsessed with who pratfalled (pratfell?) into a Sarlaac is, in fact, kind of a putz in a lot of ways. It would have been so easy to lean on the 'unstoppable badass' image he had, and with his appearance in The Mandalorian I nearly thought they would, but thankfully they have not.

I'm still not super clear on what he really wants (revenge for the Tuskans, sure, but even before they were killed it was hard to get a read on his motives) because he's obviously not cut out to be a crime lord. It just seems to be at odds with his other stated desire to not get involved with stupid conflicts, crime bossing is all about stupid conflicts! Even when you try to avoid them they just come to you, as he's learning.

A lot of people hated on the speeder chase last week and on the mod squad in general, but I dig the designs of the cyborg street gang. The chase definitely left a lot to be desired, though, and way too much time was spent on it. Still, they're fun addition to Boba's team, as is Evil Chewie. I nearly forgot he originated from the recent Marvel comics.

At this point just bring Dr. Aphra into the series. Is she getting a live action series yet? Feels like she probably would.

You know, I just assumed Bobby Fat took Fennec to a hospital or something to get her fixed up, and they did the whole Luke-hand thing. That wasn't a particular detail that I felt needed any more explanation or filling in.

But then this week's episode decided no, this was an important thing worthy of screen time. And he took her to a "mod parlor"? Christ. Either Boba Fett is as dumb as a fuckin' rock, or Tatooine is a boring and stupid place and I want to leave it.

The shows whole ethos is “Boba Fett is dumb” and the whole series is based on “Tatooine is a sucky planet that everyone wants to leave” so, the answer to your question is “both”

I thought that was a much better episode than last week. The mainline plot is finally moving and the direction Boba is going in is a very Lucasian one. Cooperation is better than self interest. Good deeds do not go unrewarded. While I remain to be convinced about the execution, it gets the spirit of Star Wars. Boba is more interesting like this than as some personality free murder wagon

I do wish they'd dirtied up his teeth a bit though. Every time he smiles I see Ross Geller

I realized this episode that the scooter gang is justifiably called the Mods which is cute if you know about that subculture
