Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.

  • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

@Lumber Baron is likely getting the Zelda Game and Watch, it's not something I would buy personally but I'm curious to try it out for a couple minutes.

I doubt I'll get the paid DLC, but very excited for the Nov 5th Animal Crossing update. So many cool additions to the island, I'm really excited for all of it. Also the series 5 amiibo cards.

Unpacking is a Steam game I played the demo of a while ago and thought it was quite pleasant, it's a puzzle-ish game where you're unpacking the items of a character you don't see, but you learn about them through their items. Doesn't look like they have a price up for it yet but it comes out on the 2nd.

I'm definitely interested in SMT 5, but $60 is a bit too much this month.

Already pre-ordered FFV Pixel Remaster and FFXIV Endwalker. That's all I will need for the month.

SMT5 is the plan for me. It comes out on a federal holiday, which I have off, so I also took off the day after for a 4 day weekend to play it.

I'm a big enough sucker to pick up either Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Pokemon Shining Pearl. I do think these remakes lack a certain appeal, however, so I think anybody who's not sure would be better off skipping them.

Not a lot going on this month for me. Cotton 100% is intriguing but I know I wouldn't get my money out of it. Same with Evil God Korone. The only game here that I have mildly strong interest in is the Sherlock Holmes game. But I also know it would languish on my pile of shame and it's probably better to wait until it's on sale in a few months. I really dig S.H. tho.

Santa Law comes into effect as of November first, but chances feel strong that I’ll find Pokemon Shining/Brilliant under my ho-ho shrub this year. And probably also Megaten V

Guess it'll be SMTV, although I'm probably not buying at launch. I've become quite the cheapskate again with new releases. :p

Battlefield 2042 is the big one, already pre-ordered months ago. Battlefield is the series that used to be confused (and maybe still is) with Call of Duty because they are both military shootmans that look very similar at a glance, although Battlefield has always been more of a tactical-strategy experience with RPGesque elements, like classes ("specialists") with specific strengths and weaknesses. BF2042 is the first one that is multiplayer only; there will be no single-player campaign.

I also have FF5 Pixel Remaster and FF14 Endwalker waiting in the wings. And I'm now reminded that I need to re-learn how to play FF14 with a controller before Endwalker is released since I switched to PS5. 😬

Aside from that, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond is tempting - my first proper Pokemon game was Sword - but I'll likely put that one on the Xmas Wishlist.

Just plug a keyboard and mouse into your PS5. It works fine.

My PS5 sits a good 7 or 8 feet from me when I sit to play but I do have a wireless keyboard. Maybe I should find a mouse as well.

Yeah prolly best to do that. Controller is great but why learn a new method if you are comfortable with your current controls and don’t need to.

Whelp, since Endwalker got delayed to December, I went ahead and pre-ordered SMT V since I'll have time to finish before I become consumed by FFXIV
