Speaking of Ocarina of Time, this exhibition of beta content left on the cartridge is something else. Who knew there was an Arwing in there?

Double posting because the end of the run blew my mind a little bit. Some of the wildest ACE I've ever seen. Don't miss this one, folks.

If you have fond memories of Ocarina of Time, the TASBot beta showcase is an absolute must watch. It starts out mildly interesting, and by the end I was near tears.

I stayed up late last night to watch the kaizo SMW race (which ended up starting around 12:40 AM in the end) and holy cow was that worth it. Even if you have no interest in playing kaizo, this is definitely one to watch. It was an incredible display of skill from the players and creativity from the makers. I'll save more detailed thoughts for the kaizo thread, but I thought one level in particular was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in SMW (and the players seemed to agree, judging by their reactions when they saw it).

So I was beat when it wrapped last night (3 am here). The finished the main run of Elden Ring and had set the final bonus run to be if they hit 3 million. They were 100k or so short.

So they waited 15 minutes. They finished with 3.016 million and one last run.

Anyway, runs to watch:

If anyone wants a little behind-the-scenes peek into the kaizo SMW race, the folks over at Romhack Races (who organized the whole thing and put together the hack the racers played) had a recap stream of their own yesterday featuring some of the organizers, creators (some live on stream, some in the chat), and playtesters. They go into detail about not only the intricacies of each level and their creators' styles, but also what it was like to build them and see the racers' reactions. Really interesting if you're into that sort of thing. (For some reason the title of the stream in the video is wrong, but I promise this is the right one.)

And if you liked this race, every Saturday night at 8 PM EST they race a brand new level over at the RHR Twitch channel. It's a good time!

Yeah, I saw that. He rambled after the run so maybe there was something to it, I don't know. He was quite entertaining, but now I wonder about the rest of his run.

If you watched that Ocarina of Time TAS and were curious which parts were restored beta content, and which was original content based on vintage urban legends, refer to this.

So apparently the remote run of Metal Gear Rising's DLC was fake, and after apologizing profusely to GDQ staff, the runner is now trying to claim it's some kind of puzzle instead? I don't know what he thinks he's trying to do, and I'm honestly not sure if he does either.

Yeah, I saw that. He rambled after the run so maybe there was something to it, I don't know. He was quite entertaining, but now I wonder about the rest of his run.
He talks about GDQ profiting off the backs of speedrunners but SGDQ is a charity event so that makes no sense.

Anyhoo, while weird glitches are cool and all, I tend to prefer runs where they break the game over their knee with sheer skill, so the Mario 64 run was extremely my jam. I don't know how many times I've said "holy shit!" watching that run and I haven't even watched the whole thing yet.

Holy crap, the Mode-7 platforming level in the SMW hack is insanely cool.

the mode 7 trickery was crazy impressive, but the fact that they chose music from Darkman of all games had me laughing for several minutes

The kaizo community has mined the good music out of every Super Nintendo game and is now in the process of exhausting every other console. Great tunes are a staple of kaizo hacks! Er, I mean "fangames".

Fun Fact: There are a TON of bad games with soundtracks that rip. Waterworld for SNES for example!
