Rocket Knight Adventures and Felix the Cat compilations coming in 2024, more forthcoming

Powered by Limited Run's Carbon Engine (sigh), Konami will be releasing a series of retro compilations throughout 2024. First up is Hudson's Felix the Cat NES and Game Boy titles, followed by the Rocket Knight Adventures trilogy from the 16-bit era, with a third to be announced in February. Konami will publish these digitally to Switch, PS4 and PS5, while LRG will handle physical.

Per the press release linked above:
"The two 8-bit era [Felix] games will ...feature save states and “other quality-of-life fixes,” Konami said in a news release."
"The Re-Sparked collection promises a new animated intro, rewind features, a boss rush mode, and a museum featuring never-before-seen content, Konami said."

Good news all around. Happy Konami is publishing the digital versions, as I'd like to not give LRG any more of my money.

I'm a simple guy. I see Rocket Knight Adventures, I buy. Sadly it won't make Sparkster (MD) good

Are the Felix the Cat games supposed to be any good? I've never heard anything about them.

What's up with LRG?
Limited Run Games has two things going against it. One, it was purchased by Embracer Group, which...just start here and click all the links: https://kotaku.com/embracer-dead-island-2-remnant-2-layoffs-lord-rings-1851028963. And Embracer used to be THQ Nordic (which is a publishing arm they still use, but abandoned it being the flagship of the company) following an AMA on 8chan, which here: https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/2/18246867/thq-nordic-8chan-controversy-apology

Two, Jeremy Parish, who currently works there, attempted to reprint Gamespite contributor's content from the old Quarterly issues the forum used to do without contacting anyone. As some of the writers have transitioned and would greatly prefer dead names to not be used for their work, this left a bad taste in many of our mouths. The books were printed and pulped because Parish assumed no one would either care or notice.

What's up with the Carbon Engine? That's MVG's emulator.
MVG is totally fine. It's just become Limited Run's emulator.

The unfortunate thing about RKA is that the first game set the bar super high and no follow-up has met that first game in terms of quality.

More forthcoming has me intrigued.

TMNT has a collection.

A good portion of the Castlevania and Contra games have been put into collections. However the missing games from those franchises would be welcome.

Silent Hill ports of the PS1 and PS2 games?

I have a feeling its going to be smaller scale, something along the lines of Legend of the Mystical Ninja or Axelay.

Including the Parodius games, please. I don't even care if you leave the Japan-only ones untranslated. Frankly, while there have been a couple Gradius collections in the past, it's a crime that Gradius V is still, afaik, still locked to the PS2, without even a classics release on PS3, 4 or 5.

Gradius would be awesome. I'm hopeful for a cute em up collection w Twinbee and Parodius, myself...or an overarching Konami shoot em up comp, but that seems too pie in the sky, haha.

I might be able to play Tiny Tune Adventures: Buster Busts Loose! and Bucky O'Hare on modern consoles?

There are only two Bucky games (arcade and NES), but there are also only two Felix the Cat games, iirc (NES and Game Boy), so yeah. Bring it on!

I'd accept a Knightmare trilogy collection (localized or not) or The Legend of Mikey Walsh, collecting The Goonies MSX + Famicom, The Goonies II and Konami Wai Wai World (throw in the sequel too while at it). Generally want more MSX stuff available, like Space Manbow, or never-localized Famicom fare like Arumana no Kiseki. If they ever do anything with Gradius again they have to finally let M2 or someone catalogue the lesser-seen corners of it, mainly on the MSX and Game Boy front.

Reminds me that the La Mulana team had supposedly been greenlit for a Maze of Galious remake back in 2022. I wonder if that is still a thing that is happening.

Apologies for the Tiny Toons slip up.

La Mulana...there is a game that breaks my brain. I can't handle it. I have a constant sense of what am I missing.

I remember working on a reasonably early game puzzle in 2, thinking I understood it and I was just messing up execution. Finally looked up the solution in frustration and I was sooooo far off base. It was like a game spanning cryptic thing that involved taking detailed notes.

I’m not smart enough for them but I love everything about them.

100%. The MSX games were put on the MSX Antiques collections, which I think came out in Europe, but not the US. The X68000 Nemesis '90 Kai and PSP remake of Nemesis 2 (both different but somewhat similar remakes of the MSX Nemesis 2, which isn't the same as Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou) would also be aces to include on such a hypothetical compilation.

It definitely has a classics release on PS3 because that's only place I've played it lol

Yeah, do we know why Rocket Knight isn't on here? I mean, no offense to our own Tomm Guycott, but I can't say I'll miss it, especially. Still, it's weird to overlook it.
