Pioneering electronic composer and musician, co-founder of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Oscar winner for the score to The Last Emperor. You can hear his influence all over the place, especially in video game music.

Here's CNN with a full obituary. This has always been one of my favorite YMO songs.

That bites, I'm a Yellow Magic Orchestra fan. Didn't another member of the band die recently, too?

Apparently this guy wrote the opening jingle for the Dreamcast! It fits, given YMO's influence on video games and Sega in particular.

Irreplaceable giant. If you've listened to anyone play a synthesizer in the last 40 years they've either cribbed directly from YMO or were influenced by someone who did. Incredible versatility in the worlds of pop, experimental, and classical music. A legend if there ever was one.

Yukihiro Takahashi passed away in January.
