R.I.P. Christopher Plummer

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
Its been talked about but legendary actor Christopher Plummer died recently.

For me, he's one of those great actors who seems to be up for everything and anything and his filmography reflects that, from the greats to the questionable (like a trilogy of animated movies where noted racist HP Lovecraft is a boy adventurer who meets friendly elder gods) and he brought it. Personal favourites include the Sound of Music (a movie I'm only so-so on but those musical numbers are great), Up and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. What are your favourite Plummer memories?

What an icon. I love him in the Sound of Music, The Man who Would be King, and yes, Up!

When he replaced Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the World and there was a joke about other things he should replace Spacey in. That was good.

What's Shenmue?
A legend, and someone that film will be poorer without. He will be missed.

I always had a deep respect for Plummer for being one of the sort of actors who seemed to just love acting; someone who wasn't choosy with his roles, and kept working well into old age, but who never, ever phoned it in. No matter how small and inconsequential the role, or how mediocre the movie, Plummer never treated any role as "beneath him" and always gave it his all. Every performance of his was a joy, and frequently elevated the entire movie.

Not to suggest his career is a string of mediocrities… Plummer may have done lots of things but he still knew how to pick a role, and he's got numerous classics throughout his filmography and well into his late career; Knives Out is a hell of a thing to have as one of your last roles.

RIP.
