Quick! Recommend me Some Music

Do we have music recommendations thread? Didn’t see one…

So my Gamepass Spotify trial is about to conclude in roughly the next 24 hours, and I was looking for some last minute album suggestions for to listen to. Genres I’m currently in the mood for include:

Power-Pop/Brit-Pop/Indie Pop-Rock
Alt-Country (something not six degrees of Jeff Tweedy though)
Post-Rock/Math Rock
Surf Rock
Nu Jazz/Jazztronica/Whatever Jaga Jazzist qualifies as
Chiptune Rock. You know like Anamanaguchi before they went more EDM.

(He/Him/His)
Anything from TWRP will fit neatly into the Chiptune Rock or pop/funk categories. Meteor's output is a pretty solid iteration on 80's soundtrack rock/electronica.

Post-Rock/Math Rock

"Phantasia" by LITE and "the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety" by toe are both on Spotify, and are two of my favorite math rock albums; that's probably a good starting point.

And now I'm curious what Math Rock is.

It's kind of a subgenre of progressive rock; common elements include angular melodies, odd time signatures, and complex guitar interplay. This video compilation should give you a good idea of the style.

I would like to listen to more tunes and/or bands that sound at least kind of like this specific track from the Trigun soundtrack:

Whatever you'd call this particular style, I would like more of it please. Jazz-n-bass? Is that a thing? I hope it is, and not just a glorious one-off Tsuneo Imahori experiment.

Becksworth mentioned Jaga Jazzist in his original post, and I think you'd like them as well. Not quite as drum-n-bass-y as this Trigun track, and a bit more orchestrated, but there's a similar vibe. You may also be interested in Cinematic Orchestra.

Jaga Jazzist is already one of my favorite bands! I haven't listened to Cinematic Orchestra though, I'll check them out. Thanks for the response!

I think Every Day is probably their classic album (check out the tracks Flite and Man with the Movie Camera), but I haven't heard their most recent one. Hope you enjoy!

Lucero! Last two records are excellent but Tennessee is my favorite.

The Bottle Rockets are also real good, but they might be more Tweedy-adjacent than requested:

Orville Peck is apparently getting mainstream airplay, so maybe not "Alt-Country"? He's much younger and gayer than the old guys above:
