I'm trying to come up with a team of Hisuian pokémon, which I've achieved. Unfortunately they all fold like deckchairs at the first sign of a ground type move
Lilligant? Braviary?

I didn't get to put much more time into this over the weekend as I had planned, but I'm still enjoying it.

Once a Pokedex entry reaches research level 10 and is marked "complete," is there any point in finishing out the rest of the research tasks?

Ambition... obsession!

Also, you still get credit toward research level from excess research tasks.

I don’t think anything has been confirmed with data, it might just be confirmation bias. Some people say they spawn constantly while they’re researching and others say they’ll grind research for two hours with nothing. Hopefully someone discovers something concrete.
Count me in the earlier camp. Damn things are spawning constantly when we play, to the point of distraction. We have other things we want to get done!

But... maybe I'll see another Alpha Leafeon in there this time...

Anyway, related, and what I want to know: what dictates the speed at which the distortion activates from when it first appears? We spend a lot of time just fucking around waiting for it to go hot and it's easily the most tedious part of the game for us ATM.

I saw an Alpha Flareon. I stupidly pitted my Blissey against it and it one-shotted her with Double Edge... and then immediately died from the recoil damage.

This has been my experience so far. I don't even go out of my way to visit them any more.

Fully finishing all the research tasks for a pokemon increases that pokemon's shiny rate.

I’ve got a spare Cyndaquil and a couple of Rowlets, does anyone have a Cranidos or Shieldon they’d be willing to trade?

On that note, Serebii has data on the distortions. Apparently the best thing you can do is stay in an area and refrain from skipping to a different time of day when you rest. The chances of one appearing go up over time, and get higher in the postgame.

There’s also a faint circle around the distortion icon that fills up when it appears, showing you how close it is to fully forming, so you don’t have to waste time twiddling your thumbs.

I cuss you bad
The evolution and attack special effects in this game are something else. My Palkia did a point-blank Hydro Pump to a Graveller and it was a real "STOP, HE'S ALREADY DEAD" moment

What it's like playing Pokemon with my SO: she saw a Togepi (the first wild Togepi we've encountered), screamed, panicked and mashed the buttons, hit the dodge roll button by mistake, and dove straight off a cliff.

I am just tearing my hair out over these fossil Pokémon. I just keep getting the same spawns over and over again. I’m seriously starting to sour on the game now.
All done. Anyone need a Cherubi? Caught like 10 thanks to an outbreak.
I definitely do!

The Pokédex is complete.

Other than the distortion nonsense, which nearly soured me on the whole thing, I just adored this game. I spend most of my time in Pokémon games speeding through the campaign so I can play with all the competitive toys. I never feel like I’m really engaging with a world so much as just ticking off boxes and grinding.

(Granted, that loop is deeply satisfying in its own way, which is why I spend hundreds of hours on those games as opposed to the 65 I spent with Arceus).

With Arceus, I always felt like I was playing the game, interacting with Pokémon and giving each one at least a little of my time. It’s still ticking off boxes, but something about this game just compelled me in a way the other games haven’t.

My favorite part is how it de-emphasizes battling as one tool of many, as opposed to your main action for every Pokémon. For a lot of weaker Pokémon, attacking them is the worst thing you can do, and contributes nothing to your Pokédex. You’re better off giving them cake.

did i do all of that?

Alright, this game clicked with me this weekend, holy crap. I suppose it helps that I've been playing a ton of Pokemon Go lately - this is like what I want Pokemon Go to be, really. It also feels very much like Scarlet, which I adored (I know, I played them in the wrong order, oh well). Turns out Cyndaquil starts out pretty weak, so I just had some bad luck with the early area, but things started cooking when my Shinx evolved and I wasn't in danger of dying every time I got into a battle.

I just got the ability to traverse water and it feels goooooooood, better even than Scarlet since you can double jump. Having a blast filling out the Pokedex and sneaking around/catching alpha Pokemon. The boss battle things seem pretty fun, too.

The shiny rate in this game, if you fully complete the Pokedex, is incredible. I caught four shinies yesterday with massive mass outbreaks - Steelix, Drapion, Luxio, and Scyther - without even trying all that hard or playing for that long. The day before that I got a shiny Dusclops. The day before that I got a shiny Chatot and Mothim. And the mass outbreaks are fun - throwing tons of Pokeballs, catching so many Pokemon I either have to release them or send them to Pokemon Home before I run out of space, while also managing big fights with like four Pokemon teaming up against me in order to clear them out to see if I can make a shiny spawn - it's super addicting. I'll be playing more tonight to try to get more shinies lol
