Technically shouldn't Samus Aran go in edibles? If you're a Metroid, anyway
Well, now we're getting into semantics about whether being clamped onto and drained of life energy counts as "eaten".

With the Queen Metroid in mind I went with "can technically be swallowed but given what a really really bad idea that turned out to be, is not edible."

Gems: FF3 crystals, FF4 crystals, FF5 crystals, magicite
Gems and orbs: FF1 crystals (gems and ORBs if you prefer)
Orbs: materia, FF10 spheres
2,8 and 9 really dropped the orb on this.
FF9 had gem-version Crystals! You don't spend much time going after them but they're there.
So does 12 for that matter. And you get various Nethicite which is also a gem.

13's crystals are both a central gameplay and story element but the game keeps it all kinda obscure. I guess they're gems?

Man, I collected orbs and gems and rings and coins for years. Every game had something to collect and I liked it. It was fun and I didn't have to worry too much about doing it.

But then Rare came along. First with it's Donkey Kong 64, then it's Banjo Kazooie. And I needed to collect, I couldn't stop. I had to get all the gems or bananas or whatever they were callling them, I had to have them. I'd be up two, three days trying to find all the shit. I hit rock bottom when Star Fox Adventure came out. All the crap that needed collecting broke me. I've been clean, 15, 20 years now and I don't ever want to go back.

What's that? There's a new Mario game? Well...maybe just an hour or two...

FF9 has a very good, very strong orb,

Yes but in that case Ozma collects you.

Also, Ozma isn't an orb - Ozma is Happy Fun Ball:

Sometimes an orb is a crystal. Sometimes it's a broken mechanism of unknown purpose.

Sayonara Wild Hearts is like 98% gem-collecting by volume, just with a lot of aesthetic on top.

That's just the icon that particular key item has, for whatever reason. Most key items in Eternal Sonata have little key icons like this:

But the Orb (and the Hero's Crest) is an exception. I just posted that image in this thread to be cheeky. =p

Well based on its text description it's a very good orb! Just got done dirty by it's icon.

For my money the highest amount of orb and gem collection available in a single* game might be the Sonic and Knuckles Blue Sphere bonus mode

I consider it a failure of the entire video game industry that you can't type "seize the orb pyre" into the youtube search bar and find a funny 5 second clip of the announcer saying, "Seize the Orb!"

So, this .gif will have to do.

I really want Pyre DLC where the Voice does the lines from NBA Jam. Just imagine Logan Cunningham shouting "Boomshakalaka" in that voice.

I watched the making of documentary today over lunch and Logan Cunningham said that he wanted to say some. "Pyre Jam Quips" or whatever definitely would have been a fun toggle-able easter egg in the menus, although I was too into the narrative of the game to have used it on my playthrough.

Yeah, the doc is what made me think of it. As an option for multiplayer it would be super fun.
