November 2024 New Games Thread

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here are lists of upcoming games:
Here are the subscription service lists for this month:

Gamepass
  • StarCraft Remastered - November 5
  • StarCraft 2 - November 5
  • Goat Simulator Remastered - November 7
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - November 19
  • STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl - November 20
  • Nine Sols - November 26
  • Here's a list of all 2024 Gamepass games that seems to be well-maintained
PS+
  • GhostWire: Tokyo
  • Death Note: Killer Within
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 - Turbocharged
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.

Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

I'm not purchasing any new games at this point so I can focus on studying for an exam in December but there are definitely things I'll be picking up later on or watching reviews of.

I've never played any of the Goat Simulator games and have Gamepass so will probably check that out.

Tetris Forever looks fun. Lots of Tetris and lots of documentary stuff. I have a feeling my spouse is going to pick this up this month.

Lego Horizon Adventures should be fun. I loved the Lego Star Wars series, I really liked Horizon Zero Dawn but I was very bad at playing it so this should be an easier way to experience it.

I already played Stray (thread is here) but it's coming out on Switch. It's probably going to be a big performance downgrade but I hope it's still fun to play on there.

I played the On Your Tail demo through one of the Steam fests. Adventure games aren't my thing but this seemed pleasant.

Prism is a game that was at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo and says it comes out in November. Visual novel but might be a bit too much on the horror side for me.

I've played Dragon Quest III a lot over the years and it looks like I'll be playing it again.

Each and every one of you better understand why I'm stoked for The Rise of the Golden Idol, sequel to one of the finest mystery games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. The extent to which its predecessor's DLC improved on the already superb base game gives me high hopes that the cleverness, intrigue, and variety of the deductions will continue to satisfy.

Dragon Quest III is the classic of all classics, and its remake offers some tantalizing alterations and additions, overseen by the original creator Yuji Horii. A new vocation, redesigned gameplay systems across the board, visual customization of party members, a monster arena side game.... Everything old is new again, yes?

I'm a bit curious about Tetris Forever, a collection of Tetris spinoffs, but I'd want to hear more impressions from a real blockhead before I commit.

Not sure if it counts, but I tried the PC port of Red Dead Redemption and gave up after an hour because this was *so* not designed for a WASD control scheme. My hand hurts holding down the run button all the time.

Santa Law closes its jaws on November 1st, so anything I buy would be on the back burner until the end of December, but you bet your ass DDragon Quest 3 is at the top of that list.

Metal Slug Tactics is something I’ve been interested in since it was announced a few years ago, so that’s up there too. I don’t know how Metal Slug gameplay maps onto an SRPG, but I’m eager to see how.

9 Sols is another that I’ve heard good things about, and it ain’t like Silksong is ever going to come out, so the next best thing is the next best thing

Slitterhead is the big one for me. Its a horror game were you possess people maybe? I don't know if I'll get to it in November.

I'm only 50% through Silent Hill 2, so I'm not sure I'm ready to jump into another horror game right away. I may have to get some Ys X in between my horror.

I forgot about this thread and would have assumed "none" would be my continued answer, but then I was reminded about Rise of the Golden Idol when that dropped and I bought it immediately. One chapter in so far and it's more good stuff. (Play "Case" first if you're interested!)

Also if anyone on Gamepass grabs Nine Sols, let me know what you think. I've had my eye on it for a while and it's supposed to be pretty good!

So hey, guess what: I'm up to chapter 2, and the cleverness, intrigue, and variety of the deductions has continued to satisfy.

It's got a new windowed UI which is, I think, more powerful, but has taken some getting used to.
