March 2023 New Games Thread

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).
  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Here are the subscription service lists for this month:

Games with Gold
  • Guts N Goals Feb 16-Mar 15
  • Trüberbrook Mar 1-31
  • Sudden Strike 4 Mar 1-31
  • Lamentum Mar 16-Apr 15
Gamepass
  • F1 22 - March 2
  • Wo Long Fallen Dynasty - March 3
  • Valheim - March 14
  • EA Sports PGA Tour - March 21
  • MLB The Show 23 - March 28
PS+
  • Battlefield 2042 (PS5/PS4)
  • Minecraft Dungeons (PS4)
  • Code Vein (PS4)
PS+ Extra
  • Tchia (PS5, PS4)
  • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (PS5)
  • Ghostwire Tokyo (PS5)
  • Immortals: Fenyx Rising (PS5, PS4)
  • Rainbow Six Extraction (PS5, PS4)

Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.

Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

My spouse has been playing the hell out of the survival building Valheim on Steam and likes it although seems to get randomly panicked because some enemy shows up and smashes stuff? But playing as a group sounds fun so I should probably check it out.

Terra Nil comes out on the 28th. I liked the demo on Steam and it looks like you can still play the demo if you're interested. I'm just not up for a complicated strategy game right now, even a beautiful environmental/ecosystem themed one like this.

Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star comes out March 2nd. I doubt I'll buy the game but am downloading the demo!

So probably not buying anything this month, but that's fine.

I'll be holding off on anything this month...not like I don't have a backlog to get through, lol.

Outside of Wo Long on GamePass, I think I'll pick up Resident Evil 4 since I never played the original and I've been fairly impressed with these RE remakes thus far.

9 Years of Shadows finally hits PC on March 27th but I'm thinking of waiting for the Switch version, of which there is still no release date.

did i do all of that?

Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure comes out on PC/PS4/Switch/presumably Xbox but I can't be bothered to check in March. It's the sequel to Trails from Zero, is excellent in its own right, and will finally catch the whole Trails subseries up in English, officially, for everyone, meaning we're not missing any parts of the story anymore. I would recommend playing the first game, Zero, first, and possibly the Trails in the Sky games for full context, but I'm aware some people just play these two games and have a great time. In any case, if you've already played all those games, I highly recommend this.

This is a series I never got into but always meant to, I hope this comes to Gamepass as that would be the final push for me to try it.

Speaking of Game Pass, Soul Hackers 2 was announced for it right around the end of February and released on it a couple of days ago.

There’s a cluster of troid-em-ups in the next couple of weeks that all make me go ooooh

First and foremost is the Return to Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells, which looks to be roughly as robust as the other Dead Cells DLC, and that’s a really fun game in general so I’m on board with it.

Pronty is a deep-sea take on the idea where you’re a weird kinda mecha mermaid thibg busting up sea monsters. Looks kind of similar to Knight Witch, that came out late last year and was also terrific

Vernal Edge looks more traditional for the genre but also looks slick AF, so im on bird with that as well

Some French website leaked March 10th for Suikoden 1 & 2 which seemed somewhat reasonable at the time but is seeming less and less true as we draw near. :( Please let be true, Retro JRPG Release gods, why couldn't it be?

I might get RE4make but I dunno yet. It's been quite a while since I played the original...

I’m super jazzed about Tchia, which is a Breath-of-the-Wild-like with a possession mechanic a little like Ghost Trick, inspired by the culture and landscape of New Caledonia. It comes out on PC and PS4/PS5 on March 21st. If any of that sounds interesting to you, you can read more here, or watch this trailer:

Whoa I hadn't heard about this at all and it sounds and looks very much up my alley. Also I love this gif from the Steam page showing that you can be a tire:

Oh nice! Yeah the Game Pass releases each month don't seem to be announced on a schedule so my list will always be missing some.

Also original post updated with the Games with Gold stuff and I totally forgot there's another Playstation membership tier so added that.

Dang, Tchia looks super awesome. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m still trying to get around to finishing *actual* BotW before the sequel comes out, I’d be severely tempted.

REmake 4 and Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse interest me.

I don't think I'll buy either in March. I'm currently busy with Hogwarts Legacy and Grim Guardians.

I assume everyone knows what RE4 is.

Fatal Frame is a survival horror game where you take photos to fight ghosts. Its also set in Japan and not Raccoon City nor Silient Hill. I played a bit of FF: Maiden in Black, and enjoyed it. I stopped playing FF: Maiden in Black simply because I was able to get a PS5 and FFVII Remake consumed my life for a month.

I was reminded that The Last Spell is exiting Steam Early Access next week, and also getting console ports the same day. I've owned it on Steam for a bit but never really dug into it. It's a tactics RPG roguelite with some nice pixel art.
