LTLTTP Final Fantasy XII - The Zodiac Age

(He/Him)
There's definitely a bunch of superficial similarities between FFXII and isolated elements of the Star Wars mythos. Not arguing for or against, just listing some of this stuff to see if it's all that significant...

We have a desert-dwelling kid as our POV protagonist, who joins up with a dashing rogue and his non-human companion, to save a Princess from an Empire. The kid starts out naive and idealistic but (ymmv) grows up throughout the course of the adventure. Meanwhile, the dashing rogue and his companion own a custom airship that can outfly anything else in the world.

Two members of the party act as a sort of Greek chorus to the grand narrative surrounding their better-developed teammates, providing levity to the proceedings.

It also happens that another party member from the same desert country is related to the dark, menacing, heavily-armored enforcer of the Empire. Said party member seeks reconciliation; the enforcer betrayed his duties and threw his lot in with the Empire until the very end, where he repents his actions and fights the Emperor just as well.

The Empire is secretly building a superweapon that will end all opposition, be it rival states or rebel forces. At the climax, said rivals and rebels ally with each other to face the Imperial Fleet and take down the superweapon that can destroy capital ships in a single shot.

I... think that's it as far as meaningful similarities go? FFXII quite vehemently rejects the idea of "chosen ones" and relying on supernatural powers, the Cid/Balthier aspect is less impactful than Basch/Gabranth, and the Viera are considerably closer to High Elfs than they would ever be to Ewoks or Wokiees.

I also think Vayne is more charismatic and a better manipulator than Sheevs, but that's just me :p

I just think the similarities get in the way of analyzing the story in meaningful ways. Vaan being a Luke analog tells us nothing about his character, and actively suggests him being a driving emotional story that intertwines the overarching plot, Fran being treated as a Chewbacca analog suggests her as a pet character, Ashe being treated as a damsel in distress isn't really a supported theme. I don't think it's wrong to suggest there are similarities, but saying it's final fantasy: the star wars makes it seem as if you aren't really interested in reading into the game at all.
