Lies of P - Bloodborne meets Pinocchio

Is anyone else playing this? Remap folks were saying good things about it and its currently on Gamepass, so I figured I would give it a try. It's a soulsbornlike. With the aesthetic of Bloodborne taken almost wholecloth. So, if you like Dark Souls or Bloodborne I think you'll enjoy yourself here. Though, the big wrapping around world seems to be missing here. While each area, has loops and one way doors to unlike as you progress through it, once you've completed an area you won't be visiting it again (I haven't yet, at least.) The game also borrowed from Sekiro in that your character has an arm they can customize and specialize as a weapon.

The weapon system revolves around combining what will call blades and hilts in different combinations to match your playstyle. As with other soulsborne games some of these do better with different attributes.

There is a lying mechanic in the game, but I'm not sure what it effects at this point. I'm having fun. This is a nice way to fill the gap waiting for Elden Ring DLC

The game launched on Game Pass, so I shotgunned it back in September. Very good game, and the most From Software-ish of the Soulslikes I've played.

The lying mechanic is important insofar that you get different endings depending on if you lie and how often.

Waiting patiently for it to either hit ps plus or hit an impulse buy price.

I probably shouldn’t get sucked into a new game this close to FF VII times.

It was my 2023 GOTY! I very nearly ragequit at a boss around the halfway point, but after getting some advice from the "get better at Soulslikes" thread here, got over that hump. Glad I stuck with it!

Always worth checking the "get better at Soulslikes" stuff, wikis, etc. They're a collaborative genre by nature! I consider it just an extension of the notes.

Was my third favorite game of the year, and I like it more than any of the three Dark Souls games. It sounds like they're gonna make a DLC thing for it so I've been holding off on NG+ and made a new character instead, though the playthrough got interrupted when I found out my body forgot how to fight off a regular cold in the last four years. I need to get back to that soon. I was using the big wrench paired with the Conquering Amulet, no notes.

I also love how throwable damage items in this game are SUPER worth using the entire game instead of just at the start or to draw individual enemies in.

It's clear from the painting that I have been lying but it isn't clear to me outside of not trusting the dog headed stalker who, and what, I have been lying about...

The dog-faced guy is suspicious (if it's who I'm thinking of, "Alidoro" is his name) but you might wanna go to the place you sent him originally and tell him where the hotel really is; he will trade the special Ergo you get from bosses for weapons and amulets.

Lying more generally determines which of two ending paths you're on; to fight the final final boss, keep lyin' (but you don't have to lie EVERY time).

This was absolutely one of my top games of last year, despite low expectations. It's easily my favorite Soulslike not made by From, and honestly it's refreshing to play one of these games where the moment-to-moment story isn't completely impenetrable. I was worried that the Pinocchio theme would fit as poorly as that Winnie the Pooh public domain horror movie from last year, but it ended up being a good story to build around, and I have to admit I flipped at the post-ending stinger. Excited for the DLC and, hopefully, sequel.

You don't have to! :3 He eventually makes his way to the hotel on his own, and is cranky with you but still quite willing to sell you stuff, even if you repeatedly tell him to go fuck off into murderlands.

I lied to him twice. Geppeto tells you specifically not to tell people about it! So I didn't. He doesnt believe you the second time you lie to him.

Which arm are you all using? I find the electric one extremely useful. Often breaks through enemies attacks.

My go-tos were Puppet Strings for exploration and Aegis for boss fights. I used Fulminis for dealing with a couple of enemies who tend to turtle up behind big shiny metal shields, though!
