INFERNAX

Anyone playing this?

In the indie world there are millions of metroidvanias, igavanias and ever games that ape on Castlevania 3.

INFERNAX is: what if Simon's Quest, but new?
It's really fantastic, great art, decent amount of side quests, fantastic music (some seemingly referencing sunsoft batman?)

It's really scratching that specific itch that was only really done in 8bit days before all this was codified by Super Metroid and then SOTN. Remember Rygar and the Sidescrolling bits of Adventure of Link???? I do!

Anyway. Go play it. On gamepass as well!

I’ve been playing this too! I’m assuming I’m close to the end, seeing as I’ve gotten nearly all the upgrades, and the Macguffins, but there’s also 60% of the bestiary left unseen.

There is lots of different outcomes depending on a bunch of stuff. Several of them take you to hell and more stuff there.

I definitely feel like I made a choice, when I attempted to foster healthier relations between humans and skeletons by NOT attacking a skeleton who moved into a lady’s old house… only for it to then kill her and leave me her money as a reward, and later he and his bigger skeleton buddy murdered a wizard after he upgraded my magic for free into a new, more powerful evil version.

I guess the lesson here is “Infernax does not play by conventional video game morality”

The undead are uniformly evil.

Cross-posting this from the Digital Down-Low 'cuz I feel this is a pretty good descriptor of what Infernax is like.
Infernax is a gruesome retraux 8-bit game I've heard described on our TT Discord as Asshole Castlevania, or Assholevania. Where Castlevania II just sent you banging your head on the wall or talked about some watery fowl distributing bags in the cemetery, this game takes a much more active delight in trolling the player.

(I read Marlo's lines like Droopy in my head there.)

Anyway, try to save the land from a horrible curse and maybe not fuck things up too badly. Multiple endings are available depending on the choices you make throughout your adventure.

Finished it, and got what I presumed to be the Bad (or at least Medium) Ending, as I beat Belphagor, but died of my injuries and there was a sequel hook of Azazels eyes opening up. Plus there's a obvious side-quest triggers I didn't access, like all the Cultist temples and finding the Necronomicon

This was my first ending.
it's considered good path medium or something. I next did ultimate good ending, new last boss, lots of busting up cult and new final area. For the second run I used the game genie code you get at end of the first ending, which gives you a jet pack!

Then there are a bunch of evil endings which you side with cult, and you change weapons later in those quest lines. Then there is the contra ending. And a SMB2 ending?

This game is great

This game is very good. It's been a while since I played through a game and immediately started another playthough.

I am playing this, it's like CV2 and Zelda2 mashed together, but good instead of annoying. I like this.

So I've done 3x, last being ultimate evil playthrough. The differences between the ultimate good + evil are very stark. Different weapons, spells, events, bosses. It's really cool.

I'm now working on the
Contra
ending!

Got the Path of the Martyr ending. Working on the... other one now. Sticking to Classic settings, but did anyone else leave dungeons to go outside and save partway through a lot? I didn't early on, but for a good number of the later areas (including the one I'm in now), it's a little extra walking, but it honestly feels like a good strategy? (Keys, etc, don't reset if you leave the dungeon, if you haven't tried this out of that fear, enemies respawn, of course, but they do that when you leave a screen anyways. Minibosses don't respawn.)

ArugulaZ

Fearful asymmetry
Knowing the designers' sick sense of humor, I thought this code was going to make my television blow up or something. But no, this is actually "a good time." Definitely give it a try.
