Immortals Fenyx Rising - The Battle of Olympus for a new age

Phantoon

I cuss you bad
I've been playing this for a bit and the fake credits roll won me over. It's very much an Ubisoft take on Breath of the Wild, but the excitement of that game's design still adds a bit of magic to this.

I very much enjoy stumbling onto random statues, fighting a named enemy and having Prometheus share a short greek fable.

Not as big of a fan of Zeus immediately shitting all over everything that just happened for lulz but whatever, fun enough so far.

I thought that was fairly consistent with actual Zeus being a gargantuan dick, so I enjoyed it immensely. One of the fake credits is "innovator of torture: Zeus" so they clearly haven't forgotten who they're dealing with.

Fair point. Maybe if I had an obnoxious greek uncle I’d relate more. I guess it’s not that different from that head in God of War that never shut up.

Probably doesn’t help that I’m still playing Hades and they go a pretty different way in their interpretation of the Olympus crew.

To anyone else trying to unlock the optional chest in Odysseus’s tomb, I’ll save you some grief: Yes there is a tempting box it looks like you can reach by hopping on the platforms behind each of the brick wall things that are moving around, no you can’t actually do that, you’ll clip through the arbitrary “this is where you fall” barrier every time.

You can break the box with an arrow, despite it not working the first twelve times you try it, arrow needs to be on fire. Not sure if this is ever communicated as something you can do, but makes enough sense that I felt mighty silly.

Got to the first divine beast analog. Still just a shrine on steroids much like those were but I’m liking it.

Liking the whole game, obviously. I’ll stop hogging the thread.

Much like how Starlink felt like a video game adaptation to a Saturday a morning Cartoon that never existed, so too does this feel like a Video Game adaptation of a Dreamworls movie that never existed, but only if that movie were BotW. It’s just enough levels removed that playing them one after the other really messes with your muscle memory.

Fortunately, you can fully remap the controls, which is rare for a game like this. Unfortunately, you can’t make them perfectly overlap with BotW and you can still accidentally set up the same button to multiple contradictory commands.

That said, I’ve just reached the mainland and this is A Good Zelda

Is anybody else finding this game to be pretty glitchy on Switch? It’s crashed a couple of times for me now, and I don’t normally expect that from console games.

I was actually impressed at how glitchy it *isn't*.

Cutscene visuals being a little wonky aside, that is

I wonder how the game determines what level of baddies you run into. I feel like it jumped straight from regular mooks you can beat with a couple of hits to crazy purple monstrosities that take an hour to plink away at a bit too quickly.

I think I’m a bit over halfway through the game at this point based on how much of the map I’ve defogged and I think my favorite thing so far is how you can unlock an ability that just drops a weighted statue wherever you want and they seem to have only put in one shrine that takes this into account (which I managed to cheese into without said ability, ironically). All the other ones are just like “oh you brought that ability? Guess you can skip this half of the puzzles”.
