Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Stardew Valley/Etc Speed Farming Thread

We played for a bit last night, really like it! Started up an old save and it's winter so haven't gotten to try out the actual farming stuff, but the new Island seems really fun and we went straight there for two days. Lots to unlock and interesting that it isn't all just done by heading to lower levels since the volcano appears to only have 10. Nice change of pace.

Stardew 1.5:
Finally the New Content, and I really dig the concept. However, it took me an embarrassing long time to figure out how to advance in the volcano because I forgot that the watering can is like, a thing in the game, so even though I understood I needed to put the water in the lava to cool it down my brain was like "How do???"

I really wish 1.5 would drop on consoles. I know it should be any day now but I want to go ahead and start. haha I'd really like to play a coop game with my wife and while I have it on PC, it seems like the Switch version would be a much smoother experience with regards to controllers, etc.

Playing Stardew for the first time. This is my first agri-fun/community building game and I like it but I keep feeling like I run out of time in the day. I definitely wouldn't call it stressful but I keep finding myself either having to kill time until things open, desperately trying to find people before the day ends or figuring out what to do with the rest of my evening. Still loving it.

it gets a little easier as you get to know character's schedules, but having to kill time to wait for something to open is an issue that never goes away.

a new challenger appears.

It's part of the expansion pack, Endwalker. And I'm mad about it because I am scared to go back to FFXIV lol

Oh, then I'm safe. I'm not going to get into an MMORPG in the year of our Lady, 2021.

The 1.5 patch is apparently live on Switch, Xbox, and Playstation.

1.5 of Stardew Valley is so, so very good. I've been playing for about 2-4 weeks now on PC and just keep being surprised as I go. And tonight I got to play on Switch via co-op and its p e r f e c t so far. Its even possible to change your name and gender with the Wizard now. And the new hairstyles are pretty much good across the board. More representation of feminine than masculine though.

Also don't neglect the handful of new options in the menu, too. Slingshot can be used via just direct aim versus pullback, animal sounds can be muted if desired, interface scale can be adjusted on console now, and the fishing HIT! noise has four or five options now if the default is hard to hear.

I did this last night, and I was getting some weird lag. Like, once every 5 or 10 minutes, the game would freeze for between half a second, and 4 seconds. Nothing terrible or game breaking in the early game, but I can imagine it suuuuuckkkssss once you start needing to go dungeoning. Anyone else on the Switch experience this in MP? Or am I just very very lucky.

@WisteriaHysteria
I am speaking purely for local multiplayer with short range radio play on two Switches, not online. I should have noted that. I've had on and off issues of stuttering for online play with the Switch version of Stardew Valley for years. Usually the stuttering improves after the initial bug patches for Switch - like a month after 1.x Concerned Ape and Co. improves it significantly.

For online I tend to prefer the Xbox One or PC version. I can't speak for the PS4 version as I've never played it. I suspect its something to do with the Switch having less RAM and CPU resources. Thus requiring a lot tidier code on the Switch than the other systems.

what would be the best game to jump into? I've been playing a lot of stardew valley co-op with friends, and I played a bit of portia which i liked a lot but it just performs pretty poorly on switch. Should I wait and see how story of seasons or rune factory turn out? also my switch is currently in for repairs, what would be the best one on the 3ds? Which has the best fishing game and which as the best characters lol

the game being portable is preferred.

Those portraits are really charming, especially Robin!!! And this makes me realize how much I know them all by heart. I'm gonna go gush somewhere else and hatch a reason to play that somehow.

That fascinated me so I found the official announcement which has a lot more info and a link to the rulebook.

Players work together to protect the Valley. If they succeed, it means that the Valley is brought back to life, and Joja Corporation is driven from town. The way you do this is by completing Grandpa’s Goals and restoring the Community Center. Your goals for each game are randomized, which adds to the game’s replayability.

It also says 1-4 players, I'll probably still wait until quarantine is over and we can play with other people but that gives me hope that it'll be fun to play with only 2 people.

Pioneers of Olive Town is apparently so rough that JP fans harassed the director off twitter. Among the criticisms:
  • Bland characters, and this is coming from fans of this franchise
  • Daily dialogue doesn't really change no matter how much friendship you have with other characters
  • A lot of the post festival dialogue is literally just copy pasted between characters? Like instead of being repetitive because each character says the some variation on the same thing in their own way, they literally say the exact same thing in the exact same way.
  • Tons of slowdown when moving around the farm area + lots of pop in
  • Lack of festivals, and of the ones that are there some, like the egg hunt, are just cutscenes
  • Small game world that's only the farm area and the town itself
  • Makers take a long time to process stuff and can only process one item a time

On the upside they made a blog post about how they're gonna address a lot of these issues. Concrete plans that they're aiming to have patched by mid-March are making the load times shorter and some bug fixes, and ongoing fixes they're working on includes improved and more varied dialogue, rebalancing the Makers, rebalancing the game in general, and assorted improvements in general.
So we're about a week out from the US release, and I'm in the mood for another one of these at the moment, so did this pan out? Or were these fixes for Japan only for the foreseeable?

Hey, found this article from the day after I posted above lol. On the basis of this article, I preordered the game and am looking forward to giving it a shot Tuesday.

That was the biggest of the problems I was worried about, though now I worry the townsfolk will be boring. But, even if so, I want to farm, so I'm sure I'll get some enjoyment out of it

Yeah, I just played for like three hours and I'm pretty sensitive to load times, I had no issue with any of them, save for a slightly too long one, occasionally when loading into Olive Town. And that's not even every time.

Game seems fun so far, no idea how well written the townsfolk are yet. I will be marrying Laura if she's a woo-able partner.

I'm running through Stardew Valley again. I'm almost done with the second year. I'm doing endgame grinding with regards to getting a bunch of money and iridium to do the fun things. Problem is I'm getting really sick of dying in the mines. You die, you lose a fancy sword, and poof. The last half hour is thrown away. Wish combat in this game wasn't so roguelite.
