February 2024 New Games Thread

My teenage self believes all new videogame systems are $200, and you should just ask your grandma to buy it for you for Christmas.
Did you know that $200 in 1997 when FF7 first came out, is now more like $400 due to inflation? So it's kind of true. You're almost all of the way there to a PS5 now, in 1997-money. (The Slim, Digital-Only version of the PS5 is $450.)

I'm in a weird holding pattern where any game I might play now has to be completed by Feb 29 or I know I will abandon it.
This is the position I'm in. I'm sitting on Front Mission 2 Remake, and I really want to play that. But I know I won't be able to finish it by the time FF7R2 comes around, and I don't want to put that game down and never pick it up again.

Re: Persona 3 Remake -- Loved P3 back in the day. I've bought that game at least three times now at this point. I got 80% of the way through the game at least twice before save file corruption, or house burglars making off with my save file. I'd like to play and beat the game some day, but you just know a FES/Golden/Royal version of this will come out at some point, and I'm not going to buy this game a FIFTH time.

I did play the second RGC via the translation patch. Most of the games were fun but the detective game did nothing for me and kind of sucked the joy out of it.

Yeah, same. I bought a repro with the patch on it back in like 2017 at TooManyGames. It was fine, but I honestly kinda thought it lost the luster of the first one, and the detective game was definitely part of that.

Some people were praising Granblue Fantasy: Relink in my vicinity recently, and I wanted to try the demo, but for some reason I didn't. Does it even exist? It is because of that that I'm not able to describe it in greater detail. It's an action RPG spun off from a (spits) gacha. Apparently, they restarted development from scratch after things fell through with Platinum many years ago. I might not end up with time for this.
I found the demo button finally and took this for a spin. This seems fun, charming, polished, and approachable, but somehow I'm getting a premonition that I'll abandon it before it clicks. I'm undecided.

I'm not sure it was known until now, but the reason that the Tomb Raider remaster turned out so well is that the team lead was the OpenLara dev. Very cool.
