I'm a day late, but Fat Bear week has started! Enjoy bears packing on the pounds for winter and pick your winner in the matchups each day.

Choose the fattest bear of the year! Some of the largest brown bears on Earth make their home at Brooks River in Katmai National Park, Alaska. Fat Bear Week is an annual tournament celebrating their success in preparation for winter hibernation.
Fat Bear Week is a single elimination tournament. From September 29th to October 5th, your vote decides who is the fattest of the fat. For each set of two bears, vote for the bear who you think is the fattest. The bear with the most votes advances. Only one will be crowned champion of Fat Bear Week. Matchups will be open for voting between 12 - 9 p.m. Eastern (9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Pacific). Watch the bears of Brooks River everyday on explore.org.

The problem now is we have to wait for a whole year to go by before we get to do it again. :(

True, but a wild animal packing on the weight in a specific time frame for a specific use is what's fascinating to me. The before and after shots in a few months are crazy, and it's really wild if you think about the fact that all the bears suddenly do this in sync. Biology is neat.

Fat Bear week will be Oct 5th-11th this year and I am already excited. I just checked the cameras and three bears were sitting there chowing down so good stuff.
These live cameras are super relaxing. Yesterday before bed, I watched three bears standing inside a river, watching for fish. The highlight was one bear raising his paw, and then putting it back down. Also, bear four appeared after some time. Just walking in, casually. It's pretty great.

I just tuned in to see four bears chilling in the river, doing nothing. One bear just idly waving its paw through the water every so often. A+ content, could watch for hours.

I know right? It's definitely on my bucket list to visit Brooks Falls where the cameras are someday and just watch the bears. It requires chartering a seaplane so dunno if it's something I could ever afford but man would that be cool.
