Okay, I got through the tutorial. And now Im in the actual game. I've only done it once so maybe Im missing things but Im not quite sure how the map thing works?

I have to use points, which I don't know how I get, to open areas on the map. Then something outside of my control happens and then I can take my party to these locations?

Is that how this works? Once a location is open can I revisit it? Do you get points through levelling up? Doing sidequests? Does it happen automatically?

Yes, you can revisit locations and you get points through sidequests.... cleaning the map of icons... things of that nature... I think... been a while

Thank you. I think I'm regretting picking a mage. Should have gone rogue. Especially, because it seems there isnt an option for blood magic in this game (?!?)

I'm doing great at clearing icons on the map in the Hinterlands. Not doing so great at progressing this storyline though.

Leveling up seems to take forever. Do you get more XP for completing storyline quests? Cause defeating enemies doesnt give you much, even when theyre a couple levels above you...

Yes, the devs were like, "it really didn't make sense for blood magic to be so common among the protagonists" for lore reasons even though it was unquestionably the best and most fun specialization for mages in both previous games... in my opinion they should not have worried about that and obviously this setting is made up so there are plenty of contradictory radical lore shifts anyway...

You do get XP for completing storyline quests but this is a long game and there's a soft level cap somewhere in the 20's. (actually, apparently it's a hard 27) There are inquisition perks (?) that give you more xp for collecting codex entries which does add up over the long run. Actually, I think just completing any quests probably gives you more xp than just killing any enemies. I'm not sure it's very xp profitable to kill enemies when they're several levels above you but like I said it's been a while.

One piece of advice I remember getting when playing the game was don't worry about clearing out the Hinterlands before moving on. Come back and clear out more of the stuff there later; it's a very big zone and you'll likely start to feel bogged down/tired of it before finishing it all if you focus on clearing it first. I think most of the quests aren't going anywhere (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) so you can go on and start poking around the next zone or two, then come back and polish off a few more Hinterlands quests later, to break up the deluge a bit.

That is good advice! I realized it myself when I started encountering mobs that were 2 to 6 levels higher than I was. And, then realizing that there was no way for me to get to those levels by just grinding out mobs. So, I've moved to a bog but it might also might be too high for me. Maybe, I'll just follow the main story line for a bit and head over to the other area and try that?

Some of the later areas are massive too. There’s a lot more side content than you’ll ever need. So just do what’s fun and feel free to jump around in general.

I should have known closing the Breach was just the beginning! It did seem the game was a little short! Who did you all go with in your game, Mages or Templars? I decided with the mages as I have for the entire series, this setting is very cruel to them.

I suppose the reveal of Corphyeus would mean more if I had played DA2 some time in the last decade? The game seems to think I should know who he is, at least Varric mentions him and he was in DA2. Regardless I don't have any idea who he is. Just that he's ugly and I need to kill him.

Enjoying the game right now. A lot of new areas on the map post Haven!

Corypheus was only in a DLC for DA2 and there wasn't too much explication on who or what he was other than "really old darkspawn adjacent thing" so you aren't missing much.

I've invested over 50 hours into the game and I think I'm nearing the end. I was chasing after Cassandra as the romance option for awhile but then during the Ball mission at the end Josephine came out and danced with the Inquisitor, despite the fact that I don't think I'd ever even chatted with the character until then. Anyone, I decided to pursue that as the romance option.

I've done a handful of the party members special missions. I thought all of them would be as involved as Cassandra's but that isn't the case at all. Leliana's and Varric's are short single little missions. Dorian's is just one guy on the map. Though, I think there was some glitch on Cassandra's as the 5 rebels progress bar was full before I eliminated all 5 of the rebels. And now that I've completed all of them I can't get the conversation to trigger and it just sits incomplete in my journal.

The dragon fights, I've done a couple of the ones in the earlier areas of the game are still the highlight in the game. You've really got to plan things out and make sure your party is maximizing damage while monitoring health. I've really been enjoying the game. The central story is simple but so many of the little side stories and vignettes have been interesting. I'm curious what missions you all have enjoyed?
