Really gone back and forth on this game for the last week or two, which is probably a sign that it's really good.

Tutorial kinda sucks, but the game itself, especially in multiplayer is enough to make up for it. Tons of fun, and I've put probably 20+ hours into it in the last week? The fact that it's playable with my XAC setup thanks to its amazing accessibility options (on top of having screen effect + screen shake reductions which are amazing for photosensitivity), has made it a mainstay of a game that i just keep booting into when i'm bored.

Trailer:

Also has tons of Sega characters on top of Sonic characters. Really cool game all around.

and the music *rules*:

Game download and website:
(also its playable on steam deck, worth mentioning. mac performance also seems a bit rough atm but it seems like they're going to fix that based off of the devs response on discord.

also you can play it at 320x240, which looks absolutely ridiculous on my crt monitor @ 160hz.

Video games
you have to scroll through hundreds of words of pointless text to get to the tutorial, which is nails-hard and roughly an hour long

a shame because I hear there's a good time buried under that absolute atrocity of a first impression.

Yeah, the tutorial absolutely sucks. I'm glad that they gave the option to skip it. When I played with my boyfriend who had previously played srb2kart, he just entirely skipped the tutorial, played a cup, then played online with me and had tons of fun despite it. I really feel like the tutorial does not remotely prepare you for how the game actually is, remotely. It really overwhelmed and overcomplicated it all for me, and I have hundreds of hours in srb2kart.

I will say, the CPU (especially the rivals) absolutely cheats, and it's been datamined & confirmed. Really hoping that they tone that down more, because even with the first update doing that, it still feels too much on normal difficulty.

Also fun tip:
Change the game to OpenGL Legacy in the video options under renderer and have access to really cool saturn inspired 3d models, feel like it really makes the game even better, esp perspective wise.

The things people do with the DOOM Engine, even in the year of our Lord, Arn Anderson, 2024 are fucking bananas.

It's absolutely amazing how dedicated people are to continuing to iterate and build incredibly cool things with the doom engine in the 2020s. love it.

also this game looks ridiculous on my crt

New update out now. 2.2.

Huge overhauls to the CPU AI's cheating, drifting, handling, new auto ring accessibility feature and even more changes to the trick system + bounce + starting rings. Seems like they're doing a good job in quickly bringing this game to a more balanced state than it launched in. New changes feel great.
