December 2022 New Games Thread

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).
  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Here are the subscription service lists for December:

Games with Gold
  • Dead End Job Nov 15-Dec 16
  • Colt Canyon 1Dec-31Dec
  • Bladed Fury 16Dec-15Jan
Gamepass
  • Eastward (Cloud, Console, and PC) - December 1
  • The Walking Dead: The Final Season (Cloud, Console, and PC) - December 1
  • Totally Reliable Delivery Service (PC) - December 1
  • Hello Neighbor 2 — December 6th (console/PC)
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (Cloud, Console, and PC) – December 6
  • Chained Echoes — December 8th (console/PC)
  • Metal: Hellsinger (Xbox One) – December 8
  • Infinite Guitars — December 13th (console)
  • Potion Craft (Console and PC) – December 13
  • High On Life — December 13th (console/PC)
  • Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan (Cloud, Console, and PC) – December 15
PS+
  • Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition | PS4, PS5
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition | PS4
  • Biomutant | PS4, PS5

Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.
Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

I'm going to be traveling starting Monday so posting this a bit early. Which apparently means the Gamepass and PS+ lists haven't been released yet so I'll probably add those when I'm back mid-December.

I already own it on Steam but Inscryption is rumored to be coming to Switch in December. Assuming the port is good I highly recommend this.

I was interested in Marvel's Midnight Suns when I heard it was going to be an XCOM thing, but the addition of cards is confusing me a bit. Definitely curious but also definitely waiting to hear impressions and more detail about how it plays.

Wavetale has a demo on Steam and it's one I'm interested in but also made my laptop very unhappy. Which is amusing since it apparently first came out on Stadia or something? Anyway, not a must-buy for me, but something I'd be curious to try on a console later on.

Aka is another game I played the demo of during a Steam festival. You're a red panda warrior who wants to retire to a non-fighting life. The demo was fine but the text/dialogue was a bit clunky and awkward and navigating some screens was odd. Another one that's not a must buy but I'm curious to see how the release goes.

All of which is to say that I'm not planning to buy any new games this month. Hoping to clear out a lot of my backlog during travel.

I have been informed by Amazon that CrisisCore –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion is shipping my way this December. So that is definitely on the docket. I am moderately regretting preordering the Playstation 4 version, as I recall the bevy of sidequests involved would likely work best on the Switch. On the other hand, playing a Final Fantasy 7 game on a non-Sony system seems wrong, so I'll stick to the Playstation.

Oh, btw, CrisisCore was one of my favorite PSP games, so going to go ahead and say I'm looking forward to this one. Happy to see the last thing on Zack's mind all over again.

Just getting the Taito Egret II Arcade Memories V. 1 and possibly Elevator Action Returns and Cleopatra Fortune for the Switch.

Since my video is oddly the most popular search for Arcade Memories, here you go lol:

The other two are also Taito games that I absolutely adore. I'm playing on doing an Elevator Action Returns Let's Play in the future, so stay tuned for that!

Very excited for the Callisto Protocol. Callisto Protocol is a new Dead Space game that is not titled Dead Space which launches before the remake of Dead Space game which is titled Dead Space.

I've put Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core on my Christmas List.

If you get games on Switch and like playful deck building games and horror, go with Inscryption.

I'm also going to say... I did not know there was a video game adaptation of S.E. Hinton's Rumble Fish and that it had a sequel.

This seems accurate.

December is surprisingly packed; usually it’s a fairly dry month.

Inscryption
Final Fantasy: Crisis Core Reunion
Elevator Action Returns
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song
Front Mission First Remake
Dragon Quest Treasures

And that’s only off the top of my head

I'll definitely be doing some soul searching over whether to get Marvel's Midnight Suns. Beyond that, I'm not aware of anything else coming out soon that I'm excited for. Maybe Elevator Action Returns?

Chained Echoes looks to be one of those games that says “Hey, ‘member those 16-but JRPGs that you still consider the high point of the genre? This is one of those.”

Sports Story is coming out this month! The sequel to Golf Story which was one of the best early dl Switch games.
Oh HELL yeah.

I was gonna say just Splatoon 3 and Triangle Strategy, but I already got Elevator Action Returns and I have to pick up Sports Story with a quickness. Some others go on the radar but probably won't get picked up for a while.

First post is updated with the subscription service games. I've heard good things about Eastward and Potion Craft, I think my Gamepass runs out this month but was planning on renewing to try out Pentiment anyway.

Also if anyone with PS+ hasn't played Mass Effect, the legendary edition is absolutely the best version of the games. Get on that!

I'm kind of curious about Dragon Quest Treasures and this Crisis Core remake, but I think I'll dedicate December to finishing what I started.

I am disappointed there's no overflowing love for Dwarf Fortress in the thread. But I suppose it is closer to a historical curio at this point when so many successors have had a larger cultural imprint. Also, the price is steep considering it's also... still available for nothing without even doing any "crimes".
