Bird Migration Dashboard

Please check out the Birdcast Migration Dashboard, which lets you see what birds are migrating near you daily (in the lower 48 USA). You can look both by state and by county.

"Total Birds Crossed" is an ominous statistic (example from spring last year):

The species list is a lot of fun, as it has migration notes and links to more info including the sounds of calls.

Looks like my county has a bunch of warblers, the nighthawk (which I didn't know migrated through here, huh) and a few others including Baird's Sandpiper which I was just reading about. Very fun.

Activity in my area is still low right now, looks like things will pick up later in September.

Glad people are having fun with it! I'm also really fascinated by the visuals with the audio samples, according to the FAQ they process submitted sound files to have visual representations but I'm not familiar with the system used. Interesting stuff for sure.

It's probably through Cornell's excellent bird identification app, Merlin. (Which is what I was referencing in my previous post.)

Merlin tells me every bird in my backyard is a robin. Except that asshole cardinal that dive bombs me if I play his song back to him. Chirrrrrpp chirp chirp chirp motherfucker.

Oh yeah Merlin is the best.

Coincidentally, we also just saw Nighthawks here for the first time; according to Merlin they’re only around for a couple weeks or so.
