Batman: Wayne Family Adventures is super great, and sweet and funny

It's a great online comic. You can read it here.

I have never been too much into Batman. I enjoyed what I consumed, but never looked for stuff. But this is just awesome. It's very funny, and sweet, and has also really touching moments that are so heartfelt, it makes me tear up a bit.

Like, instead of seeing what every Batman show and comic is about (I think, as mentioned, I haven't experienced much of it), we see nearly nothing about fighting crime and supercriminals. Instead, we see Batmans homelife - or, more precisely, the life of all his Robins and generally helpers, plus sometimes a chapter from Barbara or another helper character, about how weird life is in Gotham. There is a comic about one of them driving the Batmobile for the first time, and doing a horrible job of it, one about Batman thinking about whom to take along to a gala (they all have been to one, and were horrible) and then, you have super touching chapters about one of them having a (gay) relationship, being too shy to hold hands, and talking with one of his make-up siblings about it. It's great, it's wholesome, and a great example of what a family should be.

No matter if you are into Batman or not, give it a read. I love it.

Oh yeah, I think we discussed this in the Webtoon thread? I love this despite having only the most rudimentary knowledge of Batman. I do feel like the quality of the art declined recently but it's still quite good.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that the art quality suddenly dropped, I belive right after the end of the first "season". I also thought the writing suffered a similar drop simultaneously, the stories becoming somewhat generic and uninspired. But in the most recent strip the quality seems to have gone up again, so let's hope it was just a momentary slump.

Since I don't keep up with the modern Batman comics otherwise, this has basically been the comic that introduced me to many of the newer characters, and new developments for older characters. Most notably, this was how I learned that Tim Drake is gay/bi now. It's also revived my interest in poor old Jason Todd, making me really tempted to go back and read his original adventures.

Though my favorite individual strip is still probably the Valentine's Day one with Batman and Catwoman. Especially the people in the comments section discussing how Dick will react when he hears about it. Because he's had to deal with this stuff ever since the Golden Age.

Hey, great to see this comic came back. And yeah, it's awesome. Been on it since day one.

Episodes 53-61 had a different main artist who, I hope was just standing in. The original person came back for the most recent three. (At least the free ones; dunno about the ones locked behind a paywall right now.) Same writer in S2 as all of S1 from what I can tell though.

When I made the thread, I wasn't at the end of the comic, specifically, I was still in Season 1. I have to agree, a few of the comics felt a bit lacking (aside from the art, generally they got a bit more focused on the actual superhero stuff, which I don't enjoy as much). But especially the newest one was really good, very funny.

I knew exactly where it was going once she showed the picture of the plant on her phone and still loved it.

Webtoon links don't work sometimes but strip 46, the second part of Strong Enough is still my favourite strip so far. The grounding techniques for trauma recovery, everyone supporting each other, dang. It works so beautifully.

Just read the last two episodes, enjoyed both a lot, but 78 (Outlaws) was amazing. Had a lot of fun with that one.

Also, I wanted to ask this back in the episode with Harley Quinne (or however you spell her name) and Poison Ivy, but now with Bizarro - does anyone know about the state of Batman comics? Is it canon (is there a canon in Batman comics?) that these three changed sides? It's not a big thing, but if that happened, I would be curious to know. I'm not very invested, just enough that something like that makes me curious.

Harley is straight up an official member of the Bat-family now. So her journey from villain-to-antihero-to-hero is pretty much complete.

Poison Ivy is together with Harley because the show was popular and so is that pairing, so she's kinda an antihero/hero by default now. It helps when her specific brand of ecoterrorism feels fairly justified and prescient in this day and age.

Bizarro I know nothing about in the comics, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's a hero now. I think the Superman cartoon from the 90s was pretty foundational/influential/informative for a lot of people in our age group, so him as a good guy just misunderstood b/c bIzArRoOoOo has been a thing for a while. Even in the most recent Superman & Lois show, Bizarro showed up and he was a good guy fighting to save everyone, just misunderstood/desperate b/c bIzArRoOoOo.

Even in his earliest apperances, Bizarro was usually depicted as well-meaning but confused creature rather than a villain, causing problems for Superman by accident rather than intent. Heck, in his first appearance even the forces of nature seems to conspire against him when he tries to create a big sculpture of Supeboy's face:

I love the idea of Bizarro just being a backwards goofball. But he also works as a villain just because "him do opposite". He works best even if he's sort of terrifying and lethal, he's just a dude trying to do what he thinks is right but his logic is completely messed up.

My point is, please give us big screen Bizarro James Gunn.

Well, that's just mean. Interpreting this as a threat seems a bit weird and paranoid.

Interesting, thanks for clarifying. I vaguely remember that Superman cartoon, or at least I think I do. But yeah, nothing seemed to have stuck.

What popular show do you mean? I just googled, and I guess you mean that Harley Quinn cartoon? Did you watch it / is it worth watching?

"Harley Quinn" - it's an HBO Max show, but IIRC it's also syndicated on cable now? The first episode is on youtube to watch for free:

It's easily the best DC media thing that's been made in the last decade, and the best DC cartoon in the last two plus decades. Although I'm sure that's maybe ymmv based on your sense of humor.
