Baba is You, Brain is Defeat

Why not make a thread about every game I play? Threads are fun.

I unlocked all the worlds now, at least all that you can see in the overworld. But I'm also two worlds deep into the meta part, or something. What I'm saying is, that I unlocked the world that looks like a flower, and than got from there to that other, weird world, that looks like a level in itself, where you need to make one of the levels into a skull..

135 puzzles solved, and I solve roughly 3 per day now. It's really nice to actually find a new solution to a problem. Many worlds only have a handful of puzzles left, but damn, they are hard.

Dunno what exactly the point of this thread is, as I generally want to solve the puzzles on my own, but at least I have a place to talk about me advancing through the game. And, if someone wants to talk about it, please do. It's super great and awesome, and mind-bending, and just weird. The first time I made Level is Baba blew my mind into little pieces.

I think my favorite part is when you learn one weird trick that suddenly solves several other puzzles you'd been stuck on. Though there are a few times the game doesn't do a great job of teaching a new move. Also it likes to present similar looking puzzles that have radically different solutions. To my undying shame I managed to clear almost everything on my own, but did look up the solution to one puzzle and also got stuck and gave up on one of the very last bonus stages, and now it's been so long that I'd probably need to relearn the entire game to have a chance at solving it.

I am waiting with baited breath for the level editor to be ready to come to Switch.

This game was fantastic, probably the best puzzler out there. Oodles of charm and deviously clever.

Redoing puzzles is easier, then solving them the first time, so maybe it's not too much of a time investment to replay the game, at some point. Even with the puzzles where I forgot the solution, I did solve them quicker the second time around. Either your Baba-sense is still developed, or you still have a vague memory of the solution.

Just in case you want to give it another shot, at some point.

I did look up one level completely, and got hints for three or four others, but elsewise, I solved it on my own.

it's a good game but i'm too dumb to get too far
Saaaaame

I made it to about 70, give or take, out of I think 210 it said?

This game made a huge impression on me - in the first couple puzzles, while you're learning the basic mechanics, I actually gasped or laughed out loud at several points as the solution clicked for me. As it went on and it iterated on the core mechanics it got a little less mind-blowing but was still a great puzzle game. But shit, I just couldn't get much farther than a third of the way through the game. I'd love to go back and finish it but, like, I certainly haven't gotten any smarter since then. Still.

Once or twice, looking up the solution to one level clued me in to a thing that helped me solve a few more, so it might be worth going back and just using a guide. But like... I dunno, I'm all for using guides for hints and solutions when needed, but doing it for a puzzle game also seems to kinda defeat the purpose? Eh I should just do it, it doesn't matter, games are for fun.

This is very good. Very important update, indeed.

I'm now done with the first four worlds, every level completed. Needed a few hints for two of the harder levels of world 4 - I couldn't figure out how to start them, and feel dumb for not getting it on my own, at least one would have been really easy, had I not been stuck in a kind of thought.

Oh, well, on to the still unsolved levels of world 5.

Felix, you have inspired me to pick up this game again. I had previously unlocked 76 thistle pieces and 5 flowers before getting distracted by other games. I decided to start a new file and see how far I could get. I flew through most of the first world. I’ll keep checking in as I go.

Great! Let me know, if you get stuck on anything, and need a hint. I mean, I seem to forget the solutions to some (many?) of the puzzles pretty soon, so no guarantee, though.

1st save slot: 76 thistles in 12 hours.
2nd save slot: 81 thistles in 7 hours.

Hey, at least I'm making some progress! Worlds 8 and 9 seem pretty overwhelming so far. I have a few places where I think I'm close in worlds 6 and 7, so I'm going to keep chipping away there.

FelixSH

(He/Him)
Yep, was the same for me. I made it faster through the puzzles I had already beaten a year ago, and also probably internalized more of the logic.

I'm at one puzzle per day, it really gets pretty hard. But I make still progress.

Ok, I’m up to 92 thistles and 6 flowers. The first three areas are completely cleared & I only have 1 puzzle in area 4. Making a bit of progress everywhere.

FelixSH

(He/Him)
Congrats! Especially on clearing areas fully, they all have some really devious puzzles. I have only the first four areas completely done, but I also tried to unlock more areas, so I jumped around more, from area to area.

My progress has been slow, only solved one puzzle today. Maybe I should share one or two of the puzzles I'm stuck at.

After being stuck on area 8, Chasm, at level B, I finally solved it, and all the ones it and it's unlocks unlocked at once. So, 8-B, D, F, H and I are done. Damn, it feels good to get through a tough puzzle, and then solve a few at first try. Also, these puzzles were not too hard, but clever in the best way, I had a lot of fun with this set.

Oh my god, Chasm 7, "Automated Doors", has an amazing solution. So bizarre and clever.

Just as a very general hint, I really appreciate that everything, every word, is there for a reason (even if the reason is just: being there, so another word can't be moved later on). That alone is really helpful sometimes, when trying to figure out a puzzle, because you KNOW that the word is needed SOMEWHERE.

Edit: And Chasm is done. Yay!

Hey guys, has anyone messed with Baba Is Editor? I wasn't even aware that Hempuli was working on this! Beta's free to download and play around with and the last update to it was about a week ago.

The editor will officially release in early 2021, and once that happens this editor will no longer be maintained. However, until then you can use it to try out the editor and upload your levels for others to play!

Interesting, and great that an editor exists, but I never tried to make levels for a puzzle game. Seems so intimidating and hard, to find puzzles that are fun to solve.

I do hope it means more Baba Is You, though.

I guess that's a good chance to try a third time, to beat the actual game. And do everything from the start again, because why not.

Damn, this game is great. Haven't played it for a few months, and want to do it, all over again.

Oh and another thing, even if you're not interested in the level editor itself this update comes with two pre-made level packs, most of which go over the new features that come with the editor, so there's still more Baba puzzlin' to be had!

Word of warning for folks diving into the new level packs, several levels are impossible without updating the game on Steam. If you're on Switch, we're still waiting for said update, so if you're like me and tackling one of the new stages and just cannot figure the solution out, it might be one of the unsolvable ones.

FelixSH

Wow, I just took a look at the level packs. The two pre-made ones seem interesting and extensive enough, but now there are also a million fan-made ones. Crazy, I really need to beat the regular game and than never stop playing this, because there seems to be a near infinite amount of content.

The patch for Switch should be up today so if you've been waiting for some puzzle fixes for that platform, like me, then good news!
