Aurora Borealis? Oh whatever you know the rest just look

The Aurora Borealis is predicted to be visible much further South than usual tonight and tomorrow night.

But the map might be underpredicting because people were reporting seeing a bit of it in Colorado:

Either way, it looks like the University of Alaska Fairbanks will be streaming it here from 2042 to 0700 Alaska Time.

Obviously the further you can get from light pollution the better.

Annular Eclipse is today, times vary based on where you are. Don't look directly at it without the solar viewing glasses! NASA website with a livestream and other info is here. For me looks like it'll peak at 9:20am.

Apparently 2024 is projected to be one of the best years for seeing the Aurora Borealis in over a decade. I've always wanted to go to Alaska or Iceland, maybe it's time to make one of those happen.

My girlfriend and I went to Iceland in 2018 and had an amazing time, I'd go back in a heartbeat. Super big recommend. Especially since we didn't see the lights when we were there!

There's supposed to be a VERY high chance of seeing the Aurora tomorrow and it should be visible further south than usual.

Also we saw it in Alaska and it was very cool! Not super strong, just green wisps but neat.

My Facebook feed is full of amazing pictures my friends took of the aurora, but we had clouds and rain last night in Jersey. Phooey.

Absolutely worth trying!

We drove about 40 minutes east of town and damn it was worth it. Phones are doing longer exposures and pick up the colours so they look brighter, but we could see these pinks/reds in person although not quite as strong as in these photos. Really neat, and interesting that this was more of a colourful cloud. When we saw them in Alaska it was a much more distinct object that moved. Also I quickly figured out that having the car antenna in the shot helped my phone focus/stability/expose properly.

This first one is closer to what it actually looked like in person most of the time, we'd have the red/pink flares in the other pictures for a moment but it was mainly like this.

The edges of the aurora are also interesting, you can clearly see in these two where the sky just goes back to normal black.
