Violentvixen

(She/Her)
A thread for examining the new games of August! Share your personal picks, interesting curios, and not quite there possibles...

Did you discover some small game that not everyone knows about?
Share that and let us know what it is about!

Already know a thing or two that interests you?
Make a list of your interests and/or possibles!

Don't know what's so great about an upcoming game you keep hearing about?
Ask here!

Don't follow gaming news that closely and just want to passively see what BigGames™ people care about?
This is the place!

~

Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).
  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
  • Here's the subscription service list for August:

    Games with Gold
    Relicta (7/16-8/15)
    Calico (8/1-8/31)

Turbo Golf Racing (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) ID@Xbox — August 4
Two Point Campus (Cloud, Console, and PC) — August 9
Cooking Simulator (Cloud, Console, and PC) — August 11

Offworld Trading Company (PC) ID@Xbox — August 11
Midnight Fight Express (Console, PC) — August 23
Immortality (Console, PC) — August 30

  • Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
  • If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.
  • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

TMNT Cowabunga Collection on the 30th, I loved playing the new TMNT arcade game that just came out so a collection of the older games is exciting. Thread is here.

I'm intrigued by RPG Time: Legend of Wright which comes out for Switch on the 18th. It's already out on Xbox but I want to see how the Switch port reviews are. I'm still having trouble determining exactly what is going on, but it's definitely about a kid imagining a fantasy world through pen and paper and looks like it could be very cool.

I'm not sold yet, but will be watching Soul Hackers 2 as it comes up to release on August 26th. I'm curious to see what it ends up being compared to the original game in the series. Nothing like fighting demons in the trademark Shin Megami Tensei style JRPG!

Also, if Marvel's Spider-Man is playable on Steam Deck, I'll double dip on that if there's a decent deal somewhere. August 12th is so soon!

Probably not buying anything. Xenoblade 3 just came out, and FFXIV gets a patch late in the month, so those 2 will be all I need.

Somewhat interested in Undernauts Labyrinth of Yomi for PS5 on August 11. Curiously the page I had bookmarked on Amazon is no longer available; who knows if its actually coming out in August for PS5. The game is a dungeon crawler set in 1979. It is already available for every other platform. I have not played a First Person Dungeon crawler in a while. So this one is on my radar.

TMNT Cowabunga Collection is it for me as of right now as I continue to monitor my finances while I wait for my bonus to show up.
I would say that my interest in TMNT Cowabunga Collection diminished after Shredders Revenge. Shredders Revenge gave me the big TMNT nostalia fix that I didn't know I craved. I got my fix. I don't know that I need another TMNT fix in my immediate future.

I do want to pick the collection up for TMNT 1 on NES. I can wait for the price to inevitably drop.

Cowabunga Collection is definitely where my heart lies strongest this month, but there's also a collection of Rhapsody and La Pucelle coming out at the end of the month and I've wanted to play them suckers for years

Oh, I forgot another one on my wishlist that comes out tomorrow: Hindsight. A woman is packing up her dead mother's belongings and it looks like different objects will trigger memories? Very curious how this one will work but certainly looks interesting.

Also, going forward I'm going to add lists of the new Gamepass/PS+ games for the month in these threads as I know a lot of people try out games that way. The Nintendo service doesn't seem to update consistently or pre-publish lists but if someone else is aware of a list or a schedule I'm not let me know. Also I don't have a PS4 or PS5 so if there could be more detail or something with the PS+ games let me know.

I've been curious about the game Calico so definitely plan to try it out. Apparently you're tasked with rebuilding the town's cat café and filling it with cute cats. This sounds fine, but the cover art is dominated by women in babydoll lingerie so I'm wary that this will turn into something I don't like. Glad I can try it for free this way.
