Sorry, TL;DR what happened in the post?
Bongo, who is a technical administrator for the forums --- a position that requires him to have the rank of administrator according to the forum software, but yet does not entail having any of the moderation duties that come with standard administratorship (such a banning troublesome and problematic members of the community who pose a danger to marginalized members of the forums or who insist on belittling and bullying other forum members after being told to back down) --- made a a forum "thread" (also known as "topic", "yarn", "glockenspiel", or "boysenberry" depending on which dialect of English you speak). The purpose of the thread was to call people at state of alertness or attention. Now, the people that Bongo (the aforementioned technical administrator of these very forums) was calling attention to were the people that had read the opening post (or "OP") in this thread. This, in and of itself (ignoring the content of the post in question, for the moment), is an odd audience for him to make this call of attention to. Why? Because when he posted this thread, the number of people in the entire observable (and unobservable) universe who had read the thread was only one: namely, himself and no others. That is to say, at the time of the thread's creation, the only person to whom this could have been address was to himself. Nevertheless, Bongo posted this in the public portion of the forum, and so other people (perhaps out of curiosity or sheer boredom) clicked on the hyperlink to this thread to read the contents of its opening post (despite not being the intended recipients). Perhaps you foolishly assume that the message of the post was directed towards you, but that is only true after you read it for the first time. By reading the post, you put yourself in the intended audience of the post (which at the time of this writing is less than 90 persons (out of the entire universe)). Therefore, when you read the thread title again it is finally directed towards you, and so you can again click on the thread and read the opening post. The post itself contains a simple "thank you" for those who are "reading this post." As I have previously established, that "thank you" is directed to those who have read the opening post before, therefore if you want the "thank you" to apply to you personally then you mush re-read the post for yourself, and then you will finally be a recipient of Bongo's thanks (for the specific act of reading this thread).
