April 2025 New Games Thread

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here are lists of upcoming games:
Here are the subscription service lists for this month:

Gamepass
  • South of Midnight (April 8th)
  • Commandos: Origins (April 9th)
  • Descenders Next (April 9th)
  • Blue Prince (April 10th)
  • Tempopo (April 17th)
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (April 24th)
  • Towerborne (April 29th)
PS+
  • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory (PS4)
  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (PS4 / PS5)
  • RoboCop: Rogue City (PS5)
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.

Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

South of Midnight (April 8th)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (April 24th)
I'm interested in both of these. My gamepass expires soon and April/May are going to be busy so might wait to renew and get them in June or something, but both sound and look interesting.

While making this post I saw that Monaco 2 comes out this month. I didn't know they were making a sequel! The first one never really clicked with me but I know a lot of people liked it so wanted to share.

Finally, I don't have a PS5 but wanted to shout out the remaster of Days Gone, which was made by Sony Bend and is set in Oregon.

I'm stoked beyond reason for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG with timed hits, a very unique aesthetic, and a high-concent fantasy premise.

The indie puzzle duology Monument Valley and Monument Valley 2 have been out on mobile and PC for yonks, but this month they're getting console releases as well. I highly recommend them if you ain't played 'em: short, pretty, imaginative, simple, and engaging, they are based on the concept of navigating around M.C. Escher-like optical illusions. They've announced another sequel, too.

I got too many RPGs as it is, but there's a chance I may bite on Lunar Remastered Collection. I heard it's a straightforward and charming classic.

If you're looking for a version of Tetris, why not Tetris: The Grand Master 4 - Absolute Eye? I don't know what makes it so ocular or so absolute, but it's pure Tetris for true doom murderheads, and more than a decade after its announcement it lands on Steam in a couple days.

Blue Prince is a Metroidvania wrapped in a puzzle-roguelite about putting together a house from rooms you draft as you go. I think it's going to be a huge hit once people get ahold of it.

...You have my attention. I just watched the trailer and I have no idea why I've not heard of this before.

Not sure if I’m smart/patient enough for that but I’ll give it a look.
All of the above. Glad it's on Gamepass as I'd like to try, but sometimes puzzle games are just not what I want to do in my free time.

I like the art style too.

At the moment, I only have Lunar Remastered in my sights, but I think I'm going to hold off on that til I see more of it in action. Car repairs and Switch 2 are looming and I need to watch my spending.

They've hinted obliquely at Blue Prince on the Besties podcast a few times, I think the game is still under embargo - so that's probably why people aren't talking about it just yet.

How could I forget Promise Mascot Agency, the new game from the makers of Paradise Killer? As the forum's resident PK stan, I've been looking forward to this one for a while. There's a demo but you only get an hour and barely scrape the surface (and there's lots of talking in it), but I'll be getting it today and can report back. It's on every platform, looks like!
