Adventures of Lolo

Even though the series is long dead, I think is worth it's own thread. Even if it's just so I can upload levels I'm stuck at, and maybe get some ideas how to solve them. Or just talk about the series, and I will just post more pictures of levels I'm stuck at. Mainly wanted to make this thread. Anyway, here is the level I'm stuck at, right now (edit: already solved):

If you have never played one of these games: You need to collect all the hearts, then the treasure chest opens up. You then need to collect the treasure, and only then the door will open and the monsters will vanish. You can still be killed, after collecting all the hearts, but before getting the treasure.

The green blocks can be moved. The whole playing field is divided into squares (size is one of the green blocks), but you can move yourself and the blocks just half a square. No pulling.

The gray thing to the bottom right is a Medusa. It doesn't move, but if you get into it's line of sight, you die. Except if there is a green block or a stone (like the one directly above the Medusa) is between you and it's point of view.

The ugly, pink thing is a Don Medusa. It's like the Medusa, except that it moves from left to right and right to left (if it hits a wall, or a stationary enemy, or a block).

The grey block above the treasure chest is a Rocky (I think, I'm not sure if that's it's true name). It doesn't kill you, but it can block you in. It also prevents (Don) Medusa from killing you, if they are between you and them. The walk into the direction they are looking in (here it's north, which is why you don't see the eyes). When it hits a wall, or anything else stationary (plus monsters), the change direction by 90° clockwise. They never stop. Except, if you are north or south of them, then they will run towards you until blocked, or until next to you. You can't move them - they can block your way. Also, if they are near you and right or left of you, the will stop moving. Another great way to get blocked in.

I know that I need to use the Rocky to block the view and movement of the Don Medusa, so I can get below it and get the green block up, to block it on the right.

Writing this, I realize that it's probably pretty hard to help me this way. But maybe this will be fun, as a group effort, or something?

You can also just talk about the games. They are pretty great puzzlers.

Edit: And level solved. Sorry, if you put any effort in already. Feel free to suggest ideas, though.

I have a special fondness for these games because they were one of the handful of carts my cousins had for their NES when my family would go visit them in Ohio. Nostalgia bonus!

I played through Lolo and Lolo 2 on the Wii Virtual Console (RIP). I think there were only one or two levels I had to look up solutions for--overall the puzzle design is tricky, but fair!

The Eggerland games are on the shortlist of Nintendo gfranchises I most want to see revived.

Or just rereleased, since we didn’t get the vast majority of them and the lack of localization can’t be too big of a hurdle

I've always preferred Kickle Cubicle to Lolo but Lolo is a good time. It was one of the first games my eventual stepbrother and I bonded over back when our parents were dating and finally getting serious. Memoriiiiiiiies...

Sadly, I have not played Lolo 2 or 3.

I just want to say that the final confrontation at the end of Lolo 1 is one of my favorite endings in any videogame.

(Haven't ever played any of the other Eggerland games though.)

These games are great. I played Lolo one and two.

Just a nit pick, but one flaw is that if you have a brain block on one level for some reason, you simply get stuck. Some of the puzzles involving riding the egg through the water can be devious.

The Gameboy game had an excellent solution for this: If you don't move fore some time, I guess at least one minute, Lolo would fall asleep. If you waited two or three minutes more, Lolo would dream how to solve the level. You could watch the solution from start to finish.

The third game offered you different worlds at one time. So if you got stuck in one, you could try another one and come back later.

Also, you only get passwords every fifth level. Which is far less of a gripe since every port of the game has had savestates.

Lolo has long been on the list of games I've always wanted to play, but for one reason or another, have simply never gotten to.

Water not showing it's flow is one of my gripes with the game. Seeing that would just reduce the trial and error, and make it easier to get to the interesting part - finding the right way through the level. I feel like, had the series continued, stuff like this and which hearts give you shots, would be visible.
