I did not catch that on mine and am highly amused.

WHY DID I NOT SEE THIS IN TIME D:Hey, apparently on the Switch's digital store, you can buy a bundle of both the original Ace Attorney trilogy, and this new Great Ace Attorney duology for $10 less than if you were to buy them a la carte. (So, $60 instead of $40+$30) That's kinda nifty. I'd probably take them up on that if I hadn't already physically bought Great Ace Attorney three times.
If you're talking about Ryuunosuke, it literally says on the box and all the advertisements that he's the ancestor of Phoenix. Capcom has gone out of its way to make sure fans of the old games know this.Anyway it kinda bugs me how there's at least one character here who's clearly the direct ancestor of someone from the original games but they delocalized all the names so any such callbacks die.
1) Those puns still exist, they're just not in your language. If you really care about 'em, it's [current year] you can easily go look them up to understand them. And it's also just kind of stylistically jarring to go from literally everyone has a savagely blunt pun name to... at least one character whose name is definitely a huge pun in Japanese and doesn't translate
Not only is there well established historical precedent for using "Herlock Sholmes" as an intentionally lazy work around for using Sherlock Holmes without running afoul intellectual property laws, but the whole point of the characters is that they are obviously variations of those classic characters. Messing with their names so that they become unrecognizable goes against the entire point of even using them in the game in the first place. And Herlock Sholmes is just... Bob Ghengis Khan levels of actively not trying, so I mean, I genuinely appreciate it.
Ha, I didn’t realize that is the character’s original name, because ”ouchie” is still an English pun and honestly works great as a counterpart to the descendant’s localized name.Taketsuchi Auchi
"Ouchie" being a homophone of Auchi is actually the intended pun of the original character in the original AA games!Ha, I didn’t realize that is the character’s original name, because ”ouchie” is still an English pun and honestly works great as a counterpart to the descendant’s localized name.
I mean, if I'm more serious about it, the name thing does still bug me not because I remember growing up with, say, the Phantasy Star series, where we have a character from the first game, called Noah in that localization, who then recurs in 2, suddenly being called Lutz, and we visit a completely unrelated dungeon, called Noah, so I'm generally on the side of "I don't care how you localize things as long as you stay consistent. And it's also just kind of stylistically jarring to go from literally everyone has a savagely blunt pun name to... at least one character whose name is definitely a huge pun in Japanese and doesn't translate (which, granted, they didn't try super hard with the first time around).
And yeah I'm not actually down on the lack of trying to shoehorn all the really explicitly Japanese stuff in the original games into "oh this is at least plausibly America because That Did Not Work, and even if it did work, I've never understood the logic behind attempting that sort of thing (beyond I guess, "this is too foreign, let's America everything up!" which is... not good).
And Herlock Sholmes is just... Bob Ghengis Khan levels of actively not trying, so I mean, I genuinely appreciate it.
Also yeah it's a good dub.
Excellent.Herlock is from the old Lupin stories, because the author couldn't use actual Sherlock =)Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes - Wikipedia

Ryuunosuke is about as straight as they come, and he needs to be for plot reasons because we've got to keep up the charade that this game is connected meaningfully to the original Ace Attorney games and mans has to procreate. But there's always been a playful exuberance to Ace Attorney games that just exude wholesome gayness and these two games might be the apex of that trend?"The Adventure of the Blossoming Lawyer" is incredibly gay and I'm here for it
I got through the first case and absolutely loved this detail (and his little shocked glance at the lack of noise), but then loved the fact that as his confidence improved the slap power increased in consistency in the case. I'm hoping this keeps up and they have the animation budget to show these changes, because seeing a character grow in this way is really cool.I'm only posting because I wanted to register my appreciation for Ryunosuke's feeble little desk slap as an untrained amateur.
At case 3 it starts to become more a traditional Ace Attorney game where you're the defense lawyer, and not the defendant. This continues with case 4 as well. (that's where i'm at). Also a very personal thing is that being falsely accused, even just the threat of it in fiction, hits me hard and makes me really uncomfortable as it's something I panic about in real life. I'd calmed down by the end of the first case but I was not at all ready to start off the second with the same premise, and my heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. Going to take a break and come back to this. I'd like to be prepared though, does having the main character start as the suspect continue through the game?
Sherlock is definitely meant to be annoying and off putting in the first case, but as you get to know him he becomes a lot of fun. Kazuma dying is indeed a bummer, and you might be even more bummed with the conclusion of Case 2. But I'm fine with it over all. It's a very obvious mirror to losing your mentor-character in the first game. The calm and capable characters are there, you just haven't met them yet or gotten to know them better. Particularly Mr Naruhodo basically has to be this for himself, he's very much a straight man act for the rest of the cast to bounce off of.Herlock is really annoying, I'm getting tired of the weird throw slapstick joke and Susato just seems like a really inconsistent character so far. I also I really liked Kazuma and am very bummed he's dead this early in the game, without him there's a distinct lack of capable, calm characters.
There's lots of twists. Also basic plot structure spoiler you spend some time back in Japan in the 2nd game. I agree that stuff is interesting, the game gets to touch on a lot of interesting stuff. Just wait until the 4th Case and who you gotta defend there.Plus I thought the discussions of the fledgling court system in Japan were really interesting, and I wanted to spend more time there. I haven't read many of the spoilers in this thread so maybe I do go back later. But I'm still into the game and the fact that they spoiled the Speckled Band in the intro is intriguing to me, it's one of my favourite stories so I figure there's a twist of some kind in this?
