I don't tend to like the thing in some games where orbs that pop out of enemies disappear after a short time, or where there's RPG mods that affect how you pick up orbs. Just... just give me the orbs.
Having to run after rewards that go rolling or flying out of an enemy is a game element I can gladly do without. Especially if the items disappear quickly. And even moreso if I have to dodge attacks from other enemies while doing that.

I disagree. It's important that those orbs remain in the possession of my minions. No backflipping or whip freeze frames are permitted in this castle.

The second comic from the right implies that Samus can roll into a ball without her suit on. So it's not a function of the suit, it's just something she can do. Presumably the Chozo had to engineer the suit with the capability to stay on while she went into ball form.

Is Samus a person who is an orb sometimes, or is she an orb that is occasionally person-shaped?
Is she an orb dreaming that it is a woman or a woman dreaming that she is an orb?
And so does the vacation comic.
If I ever was put in charge of a big video game studio I would create a series of games that are Crackdown with only the agility orbs and nothing else, and they would be set in accurately-rendered real-life locations. The series would be called Orbs and the first game would be called Orbs: Shinkjuku.

Well, in Metroid 1 (in the US/PAL versions) she can curl into a ball just fine without the power suit, so imho it's Canon.
Also, orbs can be people too. Just ask Kirby!

Gems: FF3 crystals, FF4 crystals, FF5 crystals, magicite
Gems and orbs: FF1 crystals (gems and ORBs if you prefer)
Orbs: materia, FF10 spheres
Gems and orbs: FF1 crystals (gems and ORBs if you prefer)
