Kinda tricky, because you're told to ignore the range result. But I'd say yes, since it's still a ranged attack — so long as the range rolled is actually more than you would need.

I think so? Since you're supposed to ignore the range result entirely you could also interpret it such that the ability doesn't stack with the feat. I'll send a note to FFG and find out for sure.
Mauler rolls 5 3 for four shields. Damage negated! Oh, and I've found this works best for yellow. |

Pretty much, I'm afraid. Thankfully, the only penalty for the heroes losing First Blood is that you don't get to choose the first quest, but if we continue I don't think I'm mean enough to throw you into an unaltered Castle Daerion scenario.
Defense against Shiver: 1 6 — three shields against three wounds. No damage. Defense against Reanimate: 5 6 — five shields against three wounds. No damage. I swear these rolls are real. If I may make a suggestion: Don't bother attacking Mauler anymore. Get one of those search tokens instead (Okaluk and Rakash should be able to get to one with their 4 movement points ability, a movement action and a search action). EDIT: Mogri, you didn't specify movement, so I put Shiver on H7 and the Reanimate on G4. That allows for both attacks to work as rolled (sufficient range, line of sight, etc.). Round 2 — Overlord turn
I draw an OL card, but it doesn't matter which one because all my goblin archers are scampering off through the exit immediately, so I win. Monsters rule, heroes drool. Mauler double-gloats, gives you a double-thbtbtbtbt and disappears into the wilderness along with his master ettin buddy. Thankfully, the goblins get lost in the secret passage into Arhynn, get bored and wander back home after a while, with no lasting damage done. Everyone (the OL and all heroes) gets 1 XP, no victory bonus for this quest. I'll post a map later. So, what are we thinking? Continue, or just leave this standing as a Descent tutorial? OK, feel free to mulligan any character and/or class, and redistribute the Light Hammer as you like. (Do so before spending that XP, obviously.) This is the only time a mulligan will be allowed.
I'll set about deciding on the next quest and building the map soon, and putting up your list of shop items to buy (remember, you can sell off starting equipment for 25 gold each). I can't say if we'll be able to get through a campaign, but I'm willing to see how far this can go. |

CAMPAIGN PHASE
So, between quests we all have the opportunity to buy things. You can spend your XP on a new skill if you want, or bank it for later. You can also spend gold — the value of the search items you drew, whether you used them or not; and half the value, rounded down to the nearest 25 gold, of any items you wish to sell — on new items for the heroes. Any starting items sold off are lost forever, but other items are shuffled back into the shop deck. The gold total is shared by the party, and you can also bank gold for later. You get a random draw of cards from the current act's shop item deck equal to the number of heroes plus one, so five in this campaign. And this time, these are: Crossbow Iron Spear Leather Armor Sunburst Scorpion Helm After you're done leveling up and shopping at Ye Olde Mall of Limited Selection, I'll announce the next quest and get to assembling it.
