It'll be a couple days before I have time for another update, so in the meantime you're all welcome to choose the order we tackle the remaining stages in. Egypt is the next one in the correct sequence, but following it only means that we'll do extra damage to the bosses. Feel free to pick something else if a particular one interests you, or if you just want to be mean and make Orin walk all the way to India.
The remaining stages are Egypt, India, Arabia, Africa, Italy, and Germany. Last edited by Glass Knuckle; 03-03-2011 at 10:05 AM. |

What a happy bat! He's all as he flies around! Won't you be his friend?

Man, this game looks cool. I wish someone would do a video LP of it or something.
Great work so far, Glass! |

Strange how the West didn't really see any more releases from Thinking Rabbit.
and by strange I mean predictable. |

Having tea with the duke whose ass you just kicked is clearly the best thing about 8 Eyes. Well, besides your falcon friend being controllable with a second player, that is.
It's a shame the game's mechanics aren't so good, because it could've been pretty awesome with the right amount of polish. Besides the weird collision detection, foes only hurt by Cutrus (like that mostly naked guy with no weapons), and cheaply placed foes, there's also some places where it can be confusing to find just how you're supposed to progress (Africa brings back bad memories). And of course, there's that whole Mega Man sword thing done in the completely wrong way. Still, I'm looking forward to this. It's been ages since I played it and failed to take notes on how to place the jewels at the end. Not every Castlevania knockoff can be a Ninja Gaiden, but I do like that falconer concept. |

According to Google Translator, Orin's original name was Sir Julian James Bond.
This game just got so much better. Also, for those who haven't followed that link, here's the Japanese box art. Sir Julian James Bond can kill you with his mind. |

"Cutrus" was also probably supposed to be Cutlass, but whatever.

What is he listening for? The sound of that lazer approaching?

That would probably make more sense, but you have to admit that Cutrus is a pretty cool name for a killer bird. Or at least a unique one.

I never knew that people were impressed by the music in this until yesterday, when I went looking for unrelated info and came across some articles and videos praising it. It's nice that each level sorta draws from the musical style of the area it takes place in, but the actual sounds involved are kind of annoying to listen to after a while.
It's no Mega Man 2, is what I'm saying. |

From what I can gather from the auto-translation, sometime during the late 19th century some ruins were found in Armenia. In these ruins were the titular 8 Eyes, or gems connected to the resurrection of Satan or something that would basically shatter the history of all Judeo-Christian belief. The British Museum sends a team to collect these gems, only to have the entire time be destroyed by a devil worshiping thief concerned with getting the gems named Ruth. Or maybe Ruth is the name of the organization concerned with the gems, its really not clear. Also not sure why the gems were scattered to the 4 corners of the earth. All this does explain why they changed the plot so goofily, to remove all references to religion. Also, Sir Julian James Bond as you mentioned.
ANYWAYS I can't believe you're turning this awful game into something worth reading, well done! Is there EVER an explanation about why you're drinking tea with the boss afterwords? Perhaps when you beat him up he comes to his senses? (fixed the link so it makes sense and not directs you to something completely unrelated yet still awesome) I can't read the title of this thread in any way other than like the sound clip from this boss in WoW. 1:26 if you care at all. ^_~ This is the clip that was wrong, its about a Mother Mega Man game thingie. =p Last edited by Serephine; 03-07-2011 at 12:06 PM. BTW, if nobody picks a stage by tomorrow evening I'll just roll a d6. The damage boost from taking the correct path isn't going to matter much, and if a boss does slaughter me it'll just be more entertainment for you guys. |

One long trek later, Orin arrives at a large palace somewhere in Arabia. Now, I've heard that 8 Eyes has some sloppy map design, and part of the reason for making these maps was so I could see this for myself. Spain was pretty sensible, and the rooms all interconnected properly. Aside from the column in the middle being off-center in the boss room, there was nothing wrong with it. Not so here. The addition of doors breaks it up, and even the interconnected rooms don't match up. Hopefully I've presented this in a way that's easily readable. Since Spain had an item hidden outside, we poke around a bit. Unfortunately, our search comes to nothing. The last shot shows roughly the maximum height Cutrus can reach if Orin releases him at the peak of a jump, and he only made about a third of the way up. Maybe there's another way though. Orin could throw those Ice Balls pretty high, so maybe... Hey! Where'd my items go!? Sorry Boss, I dropped some stuff! My energy bars are shorter too! Sorry Boss, I dropped... your life. a-anyway, we're obviously not going to find anything without help. Bringing in a second player allows Cutrus to reach the top of the screen and find the S-Jar. It's impossible to get this one during a single player game, as player 2 can only join at the title screen. Moving on (without the jar), we see some new enemies. The guy at the top has a crossbow and acts exactly the same as the archers from earlier, while the bats fly across the screen in a wave pattern. A nice thing about bats and other flying creatures is that they'll stop spawning after you kill two or three of them. Uh oh, this guy looks like trouble. Any gamer worth his salt knows that little guys in robes are a problem, since they'll likely throw fireballs or summon lightning bolts and ohgodit'scomingcloser Uh...huh. So all this little dude does is try to tackle you. And he dies in one hit. We take the dagger he had but for some reason didn't use, and continue forward. These guys are new too. The swordsman just swings vertically a couple times, and also dies from a single stab. The guy up there with the lantern is a mystery, but we'll get to him soon enough. We encounter a second sword guy as we go. This is still the first room, how many enemies can they fit in here? Last edited by Glass Knuckle; 03-09-2011 at 09:23 PM. |

Ah hah! Enemies spawn out of these doors. Three of them to be exact. We kill the last one and climb the stairs to confront that crossbowman. Of course, there's no reason to confront him directly when a stab to the ankles will do. The guy walking around with the lantern doesn't even attack, but he can still cause collision damage and is immune to swords, so Cutrus swoops in for the kill. The first blue jar is hidden at the end of the platform, and, for the first time, we encounter a door during the level. These work the same way as the ones at the entrance. Just find the switch and walk in. The one catch here is that the doors will close after a few seconds, so we need to get inside quickly. It doesn't matter here as the switch is right next to the door, but it can be a problem later. I happen to get an odd screenshot here as Orin lands. He either let go of his sword on the way down or can shoot blades from his eyes now. Nothing special in room 2. We jump, kill the crossbowman on the way down, fight a few sword guys, and kill the pink Jawa for the Ice Ball. Up the stairs we find more sword guys, a jar, and another door. Entering room 3, we encounter our first skeleton! Well, the first hostile one anyway. He fights exactly the same as the sword guys, but takes three hits. On the bottom floor, we find this thing. It tosses fireballs, which are mechanically the same as arrows and can also be stopped by attacking them. It also seems positively bored by our presence, as it yawns at us between each attack. Orin's not going to stand for that, and takes it down in one hit while it's busy being a condescending prick. We move up and fight some more skeletons. I'm starting to feel bad about that, as they all have such big goofy grins. He just wants someone to play with! Orin's having none of that though, and slaughters the lot of them. We find another jar and head to room 4. Next Update: We finish up Arabia and take on the second duke, Ghadie Rashal! |

Jumping Jawas? Fireball yawning skeletons functioning as bone pillar clones? This awesomely terrible game just got even more awesome points. I'd remembered the post-boss tea parties, but not this. ^_^
