ZeroSpace appears to be a new upcoming RTS that actually looks... competently made with fun new ideas!?

So just to get right into it, here's the kickstarter page. And here's just some live games pre-alpha:

Some random bullet points that jump out at me as notable:
- Both GiantGrantGames (who you may be familiar with from utterly ridiculous SC2 challenge videos) and Scarlett (that trans woman who is Very Good At SC2) are pretty heavily involved, and they seem cool.
- While it feels VERY StarCraft 2 as a baseline, there's a lot of very WarCraft 3 ideas in here (you have a hero from the start, from a selection of a few, and while that hero doesn't level up a big part of the tech tree is gaining experience by taking and holding map points initially defended by neutral creeps, chonky buildings).
- There's a Legacy of the Void/Age of Mythology style big global special powers bar, and it primarily charges as you lose units so it can work as a comeback mechanic. Neat!
- You pick one of 4 factions (and one of their heroes), but then also one of 6 mercenary factions as a secondary half-faction and... yeah I dig that a lot. Seems cool.
- Lot of "pick cool ability A or B (or C) choices when teching up. Also good.
- While I don't really like the art style, it doesn't look like Fortnight and it doesn't go all grimdark (one of the two revealed factions are big bugs who grow pretty flowers). Also units look actually distinct from each other (lookin' at you SC2 with your like 5 things that look like a chunky armored guy).
- The single player campaign is openly inspired by Mass Effect. Loyalty missions and romance and moral choices and all.
- Other modes include ripping off that co-op mode from SC2 I was starting to get into before the News hit, and some kind of MMO map control thing which sounds like a TERRIBLE idea but neat to see it being attempted?
- Resource #1 has real braindead harvesting, while resource #2 is generally NOT in bases, scattered all over, with supercharged deposits dropping randomly mid-match, you send Dune 2 harvesters to'em.

So yeah, I think I'm actually looking forward to this? It looks like it might scratch that itch I've been unable to address since having to swear off all things Blizzard and Dawn of War getting too scary with crashes to jump back to.

Oh hey, here's a video from one of the devs explaining some of the more novel mechanics.
