Trevor Noah Leaving the Daily Show

Couldn't find a general political satire show thread if this version of the forum has one...

No word on when he's leaving and who is taking his place, if anyone.

I flat out stopped watching the show shortly after he took over (I seem to recall a really extended segment spent trying to make some metaphor work where trans people alarmed at basic human rights being stripped away were "like iPhone chargers" or somesuch). Not sure if he ever got better from there.

I saw a little bit of D.L. Hughley this week, but otherwise I've been too busy to follow the guest host rotation so far.

Sounded like unless there is a suprise hit amongst the guest hosts it will likely be down to Chelsea Handler and Hasan Minhaj as the serious considerations for the new permanent host once it's all said and done

A week late to this as I was on vacation last week, but...

"Jon Stewart Tackles The Biden-Trump Rematch That Nobody Wants"

Comedy Central, you do realize the irony of bringing Jon Stewart back after 8 years with that headline, right?

If I had infinity time, I would do a deep dive on how old media (aka television) is continually recycling the same faces and people well past their relevance because they are associated with some particular topic, and how modern American politics is basically doing the same thing with its geriatric ruling class. Not to imply this is some conspiracy situation, just a sad side-effect of how "old money" works, but... This cannot be a coincidence.

They weren’t shy about pointing out the irony during the episode.

I think it got comedy central their best ratings in like 6 years. I doubt it’ll hold onto those numbers for a whole election season but as far as exhausting business decisions go, this one seems to have been a savvy one.

Heck, they were even nice enough to outright acknowledge the valid criticisms of both-sides-ism and valuing quick laughs over putting in real work toward effecting social change... before cheerfully sweeping it back under the rug.

But it is a comedy show in the end. And if you want actual research and nuance with your political comedy, John Oliver is still doing his thing right over there.
