Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.

  • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

Ikenfell is finally coming out four years after its Kickstarter and it still looks pretty promising. A charming pseudo 16-bit RPG about plucky youths at a magic school and it isn't associated with a transphobic author?!

Two games that I'm interested in but am not sure I'll pick up:

Raji: An Ancient Epic- I missed my chance to play the Steam demo a couple weeks back and want to try it out before I buy it.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit- Our house is 90% carpet so this won't work, but I want to play it so badly!

Octopus Prime

Big on Pikmin 3 over here; it’s quite possibly my favourite neglected Nintendo Franchise, and now it’s all spiffed up and better than ever!

Also, provisionally excited for GI Joe: Blackout, which, from the trailer, looks to at least be doing a suitably acceptable job of adapting a franchise I care deeply for to a medium that can do the best job replicating what I like about it.

Only one I'm really looking forward to is Trails of Cold Steel IV. Which means I really, really need to beat III before the end of the month.

Super Mario 35 launched this morning. This multiplayer elimination game has players racing through a remix of Super Mario Bros. 1 and interfering with each other.

Star Wars: Squadrons is out tomorrow. Sounds like it might be a swell time. I don't have the means to get it right now but it's on the list. It's a spacey dog-fighting kind of game, not unlike TIE Fighter, X-Wing, or parts of the Rogue games.

Torchlight 3 out on the 13th. It's a Diablo-like but bright, more light-hearted fair. (I feel like most of TT will know this series.)

Outside of those two, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands launches on October 26th in the US. I was invited to the beta yesterday and I've put in a few hours. There's some quality of life improvements, level squish, the game looks and sounds as good as it ever has, but it's still ultimately the same WoW as before, so YMMV in terms of what, or if, you get anything out of it. I'm still neck-deep in it, I'm afraid; bought the expansion months ago, looking forward to it.

Hide & Dance looks like it might be short silly fun. It's by the same devs as silly puzzler Mom Hid My Game!

Dance to the rhythm of the music hiding from your incoming parent!

Press the buttons to the rhythm of the music!

Dance and make combos!

Be careful not to be spotted by your mom entering the room!

Definitely getting Trails of Cold Steel 4, other than that I'll just be playing more Crusader Kings, Mario Sunshine and Galaxy

If early access counts, Baldur's Gate 3's first act is being released in a few days. I'm rather excited, considering it actually has good devs behind it, but I'm not sure if I'll get it in early access or not.

Crash Bandicoot 4, Transformers: Battlegrounds (which I expect to at least be better than WWE 2K Battlegrounds), and Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures I & II are the three I have eyes on this month.
