This is out! And awesome.
Currently getting my ass handed to me with stage 5 boss, but holy this is beautiful. It's closer to the core of contra than even Blazing Chrome (also awesome)

Other thoughts: I'm old and feeble. I'm far from my 1cc Shattered Soldier and Contra 4 days.

Anyone else on this?

It's more than half a decade old now so at this point it would be a fond revisit than a fresh introduction, but I'm glad more people are getting to play it thanks to console ports now. It deserves the accolades any are willing to give it, and I think @Klatrymadon's old writeup on it (ctrl+f the game's title in the forum archive) gets the best at the heart of why it's as good as it is.

It's a fantastic game that stays very true to the NES Contra spirit. And that last section and boss... oof, it's tough stuff. But the quality keeps you going.

So on stage 7 now.
It's HARD!

I think one way where they didn;t need to stick to Super C so much is the over head stage (6). Like in Super C, it's largely a bore, and worse here because it's quite long. I like that it has some visual references to Ikari Warriors though!

Stage 7 is really tough, especially the second half. I'm glad there's a checkpoint. But there's such a beautiful logic and sense of escalation to the final boss. I kept dying, but it never felt like the game was pulling a fast one on me.

I love the overhead stages in Super C, but I am probably in the minority.

It's easier if you can hit the checkpoint in Stage 7 with a weapon - I think it carries that over? Been a long time since I played through it. I just remember how wobbly I was after pulling off the win with the pea shooter in the final phase...
