So Super Mario Kart turned 30 a week ago, I thought this might be worth it's own thread.

I played it a ton when it first came out, still love the first one. Haven't played all of the sequels.

If not for this game I bet a lot of mascot games would be doing Puyo-Puyo with different graphics.

The battle mode in the original is something special, I need to introduce the kids to it. The "counter the red shell by running directly into the person firing it" is a mechanic I miss

Is the first Mario Kart the only one with the feather power up? I really like the feather and having courses that take advantage of it.

This is a pre-blue shell Mario Kart. My brother got good at the game with Bowser. I could never beat him once he mastered Bowser. He would be so far ahead that a red shell wouldn't catch him.

Nintendo created a genre of racing game with this game. I'm not aware of mascot cart racers before Mario Kart. Mario Kart has stood the test of time. Its a classic in the same league as Zelda and Super Mario Bros.
