Listen. I’m a simple person. As shitty as Ubisoft is, someone there is listening into the Gaer channel: they made Peach a motherfucking murder-tank in Mario+Rabbids 1, and they’re upping the ante now.

And yeah, I’ll say it: I love Rabbids and their humour. Fite me.

My biggest hope for the sequel is that they let you use more than three characters per map.

Peach has always been the best Murder-tank going back to Super Mario RPG on the SNES.

Hey this is coming out soon and there's a new cinematic trailer.

The new trailer very strongly hints a spoiler about the big bad: it's Rosalina somehow, isn't it? That's why her Rabbid version is present but she's been nowhere to be seen. If true, honestly didn't see that coming.

I'm assuming the main villain is either a brainwashing or a mind swap situation.

I am sooo excited for this. Previews make it sound like they really went all out here, and the success of the first game loosened up a lot of restrictions on what they were and weren't allowed to do, at least with the Rabbids. Apparently the Rabbids talk now, which is weird, but the result looks like a wide variety of wacky NPCs that Mario RPGs tend to lack nowadays. The first game looks tame compared to this one, and the first game was really freaking weird. I will always love that the story was "oh no, our worlds have collided into a twisted hellscape" that ended with them just... not fixing it, because why not keep things this way, it's fun.

The battles also look really cool, and less restrictive. It looks like you can have a party without Mario in it, or a party of all Rabbid characters, or all Mario characters. I'm hoping that's an open option and not just relegated to particular story moments. The first game was carefully balanced around those restrictions but they still felt annoying. I'm guessing the more traditional RPG structure will have some trade-offs, balance-wise, but that just means the first game will still be worth playing, because it will be different from this one.

Also, Rayman DLC! I'm pumped. I hope he gets to interact with Mario and isn't completely siloed off like the DK DLC, though the DK DLC was great. Y'all played the DK DLC, right?

Oh nice I didn't pick up on that.

Yep, really liked it. I feel like Globox could have some really fun usage in this game so I hope he's in the DLC too.

Just starting to play and Rabbid Mario had a line? Did they talk before? And I mean in word bubbles, I thought they just made weird gibberish noises before and don't remember text explaining what they're saying.

I’m bummed the Vamp status seems to be gone, that was a fun part of the first game and made Rabbid Luigi a surprisingly effective healer.

Nope! Ubi Soft had a strict rule that Rabbids can never speak, which the developers cheated around with the Phantom, because he didn’t speak, he sang. The game did so well and the Phantom specifically was so popular that Ubi Soft loosened the reins and let them give the Rabbids lines.

It’s a good change, imo, because it means they can have lots of NPCs instead of just Bowser Jr.

Agreed, I like it! But boy did something in my mind break seeing a normal sentence attributed to a Rabbid.

Be forewarned, if the game has a sequence of multiple battles in a row it will consider them one battle for the purposes of restarting. Choose to restart the current objective instead.

I screwed up the boss turn one and decided to try again but it kicked me to the beginning of the previous battle 😭

I did this too! It's a very weird word choice!

I'm having a blast with this. Rabbid Peach is a treasure and best described as a surly teen Miss Piggy which I didn't even know I wanted in my life. The sparks mix things up in very cool ways, all the characters are unique and great. I've definitely been using Rabbid Mario the least because he's not my style, but on some levels he's the obvious choice and punching stuff is satisfying, what can I say.

The old game had a much more (maybe even entirely?) linear overworld and I do miss that, but it's a very minor gripe. I'm probably in the minority on this.

These games are definitely an interesting case study of different approaches to RPG design. The first game is carefully curated and deliberate, so it’s a nice tight experience, but as a result it feels more like a theme park ride than a world. The second game feels a lot freer and has actual exploration and side quests, but they seem like mostly busywork.

I like both approaches so it’s neat to have two games in a series be so different.

I felt like Edge kind of clashed with the rest of the game until I realized her hair was just black Princess hair spiked up with hair gel. It looks like Peach’s hair flipped upside down. Now I love her edgelord OC energy.

Once he has the ability to move after attacking he becomes an absolute beast, especially paired with Peach. Honestly every character is pretty busted in the best way.

These games have no business being as good as they are, good lord.

I'm about halfway through, one area I think this game really falls behind the last one so far is the boss fights. One is just a giant version of a regular enemy, and the next is a nearly identical fight three times in a row. Though for the latter I was able to do the first two phases without the enemies getting a single turn and closed off the last phase in two turns, so that was fun.

I love how powerful the game makes you feel. It's definitely XCOM with the power balance reversed. It's not braindead by any means but I always feel like I have an advantage over the enemies. I could see that getting boring depending on one's mood but I really needed a power trip at the moment.

Just remembered that more DLC was supposed to drop soon and found a bit more info about the three waves, which apparently has been out for a while but I totally missed it oops:

I'm definitely most interested in the Rayman one so a bit bummed that's last but oh well.

So I was finally able to start this up and, well.

I wasn’t expecting beep-o to:

1) get fully voiced

2) to sound like someone trying to imitate an old NYC queen from the 70s

The camp levels are… something.

Also not sure how I feel about rabbids being able to talk now. Or their battle voices.

Game is great so far, of course. I do miss tile-based movement tho.

So I’ve gotten part-way through the first “world”…

Do you really not get any new weapons? Just skins to change the look? And I guess no more status effects on weapons as well.

That’s kind of disappointing if true.

And I agree with you @Sprite , this definitely seems more RPG than SRPG.

One of the best things about the first game was how well the battles were designed. I definitely haven’t fought a boss yet, but the “random battles” have been very simple so far.

I’m still having lots of fun, just not the flavour of fun I wasn’t necessarily expecting!

Yep, just the skill tree for powering the weapon, and status effects are now the star bit guys. Which I like a lot honestly, it's nice to keep the status effect stuff separate.

I can't decide which one I like better, they're two very different games.

Sprite

(He/Him/His)
My only complaint about splitting up the status effects is that they couldn’t really figure out what to do with Rabbid Luigi. In the first game his drain ailment made him probably my favorite healer ever. Here he’s still good (everyone is busted, honestly), but nowhere near as useful as the other characters.

Sounds like the first wave of DLC is out? I've lent my cart to a friend so can't check but would be curious if anyone on here has tried the Wave 1 stuff. It's the wave I'm least interested in based on what I've seen so far so I'm leaning toward just letting my friend keep the game until he finishes.

Violentvixen

I (finally) got the game back from my friend a month ago but haven't had time to play. Just went to download the DLC and looks like the season pass is on sale for $20 right now (normally $30). Nice.

So the DLC is difficult in the battles which is fine, but I also feel like they made the overworld navigation more even more puzzle-based than the main game and I don't like that much. I just want to go to the next battle, not put colored bricks on pedestals after doing a cannon maze. Still having fun, but probably just going to watch a video walkthrough for overworld stuff to keep moving.

I think I would be less frustrated if I wasn't playing the DLC after not playing the main game for so many months. I keep forgetting the yellow scan power that reveals invisible paths exists! The game reminded me of this when the DLC started so this is definitely on me but oh well.

And this is The Last Spark Hunter DLC, the others are likely different.
