July 2023 New Games Thread

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).
  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Here are the subscription service lists for this month:

Games with Gold
  • The Vale: Shadow of the Crown June 16-July 15
  • Darkwood July 1-July 31
  • When the Past was Around July 16-Aug 15
Gamepass

July 3 Arcade Paradise Console, PC
July 5 Sword and Fairy 7 Console, PC
July 14 Exoprimal Console, PC
July 18 Techtonica Console, PC
July 20 The Wandering Village Console, TBD
July 31 Venba Console, TBD

PS+
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (PS5, PS4)
  • Alan Wake Remastered (PS5, PS4)
  • Endling - Extinction is Forever (PS5, PS4)
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.

Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

Pikmin 4 thread is here, that'll be a big one this month, comes out on the 21st.

I had a lot of fun with the Exoprimal beta but doubt I'd play it enough to make it worth purchasing. Gamepass will be perfect for it.

Venba is unexpected thing to see on Gamepass, I've had that on my Steam list for a while but didn't realize it was coming out this month!
Venba is a narrative cooking game, where you play as an Indian mom, who immigrates to Canada with her family in the 1980s. Players will cook various dishes and restore lost recipes, hold branching conversations and explore in this story about family, love, loss and more.

I was initially interested in Disney Illusion Island which comes out on the 28th, but the more I saw of it the less it seemed like something I'd enjoy.

Might And Magic: Clash of Heroes was already one of my favorite match 3 puzzle games ever, and now it’s getting gussied up and I am here for it

Im interested in Double Dragon Gaiden, but I’m not completely sold on it

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg remakes the very first Atelier, which has been inaccessible in English through official localizations since its release in 1997, until now. Spending the extra for its Digital Deluxe edition is a more appealing prospect than most, since they've also freshly localized and ported the original game's Plus revision, so you get both takes on the game for the cost. I really wish this was standard practice for all remakes.

We'll get Pikmin 4 later this month, but this year so far has been an absolute glut of games and I'm far behind, so I will probably take a bit of a break for a while as well. Once I've got FFXVI wrapped up, I've got Xenoblade 2 to finish, Xenoblade 3 to start, more TOTK to play, Octopath 2 to continue, Tactics Ogre to dive deeper into, Metroid Prime, etc. It's actually a bit of a relief for me that there's a lull!

I am interested in Alan Wake Remastered eventually. I have tried to play the first one a couple times and never gotten far. I've got a number of PS5 things that I want to delve into more, like RDR2.

I preordered Pikmin 4 with my other voucher, because I worked on it so I have to pick it up, but other than that I'll be continuing to prune my backlog forest.

It's bonkers! I can reasonably afford to just pick up most games that catch my eye at will, and I'm just drowning in them.

Looks like Yggdra Union is coming to Switch in a couple of weeks; I would describe it as maximalist Fire Emblem and I really liked it on GBA and this is based on the visually improved and rebalanced PSP port.

Furthermore; Gravity Circuit asks the question of “What if Mega Man was Ninja Gaiden” and I’m left asking “Why not indeed!”

Ooh that looks fun. Also the Emelone character in the trailer sounds like Mitsuru from Persona 3 which is fun.
