Hellraiser 1+2 are some of my fave movies of all time.
In anticipation of the new one coming sometime this year I started rewatching the series

I had originally left it behind back with Hellseeker. Around 5 these went DTV, with awful budgets, and seemingly nothing to do with the series. These are of varying quality and sometimes surprising. But not often

PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE LAMENT CONFIGURATION HERE

That's also my situation. Well, I don't remember what I thought of that one but I was always intrigued as a child. I'd wager the worst one comes after that but I also believe Hellraiser III is bad (worse than 4: In Space) even though I don't remember anything about it either. The main character is blonde, I think. There is a CD one. Coming back to me... Never seen it but the Romanian one has that woman from Anaconda who I always liked as a child (RIP) so I wanted to see it 20 years ago. Nevertheless! Wish this franchise all the best.

I've only seen the first two. I also read the book, and I enjoy how much the first movie is just Clive filming his own work.

1 and 2 are great, no one really disagrees to any major degree.

3 is a real mess but the greatest crime is that it's not a fun one to watch. It's still mostly a hellraiser film, but aside from some silly cynobites, there's just not much here.

I love bloodline. It is insane, but only in a good way, and I love the dumb way it tries to build the lore around the lament configuration. I get why people don't like it, it's maybe not even actually a good movie, but I've seen it a bunch of times now and will continue to watch it.

Inferno is actually maybe my favorite aside from the first. I suppose the main problem is that it's not really a hellraiser film (iirc, it was never scripted as one, but the studio had them fold in pinhead to bank on the series), but I think it still manages to capture the moral/metaphorical/whatever relation of pinhead without having him in much of the film. Really well directed and at the least it's interesting.

Then I've only seen hellseeker and deader after that. Hellseeker was boring and i've retained very little of it aside from some of the twists. I voted it, but that's probably a mistak; it's fine. Deader was kinda cool as a new concept around the series, but it didn't grab me.

I think I've only seen up to Hellworld, and most of these I've only seen once, over a decade ago at this point, so the only one I remember decently well is the 1st movie.

I remember liking Bloodlines quite a bit, so much so that I was taken aback once I learned it has a bad general consensus among fans. But like I said above, it's been quite a while since I've seen it.

So I watched Judgment

These last 2 have problems, mostly being low budget af, but they have advantage of trying to get back to source of the materiel.

In Revelations, friends go to Mexico to be scumbags. One of them is murdering women they pick up, and the other not really into it, but also not doing anything to stop. The more aggressive scum bag is told about the Lament configuration by THE HOBO from 1, or cheap facsimile thereof. No eating bugs this time. So he gets taken by Pinhead, Chatterer and the Jobber Cenobites.

The other guy remains in Mexico and mistakenly gets blood on mattress bringing badboy back to skinned life. He then starts killing sex workers to feed to him. One has a baby though and he can't do it - causing a rift between them.

LATER (and Mexico stuff being told in flashback) The families of these two havent heard from these guys in over a year. The GF of BADBOY feels something has been kept from her. The mother of BADBOY has a camcorder he used to film his Mexico exploits, and later the opening of the box. She is semi aware of the truth.

The OTHER GUY returns, and is in a stupor. Everyone asking about what happened, and he can't relate much. HOBO comes to aggravate family, and when they attack him, it back fires. All the while we see scenes in Cenobite dimension of Pinhead torturing a guy, insinuated to be BAD BOY, driving pins into his head, and other gross stuff.

It is revealed though that OTHER GUY is BADBOY wearing OTHER GUY's skin. He skinned OG and set him up to be taken by Cenobites so he can avoid that fate. The Cenobites are still on to them and he wants his family to open the box to send another person back to set him free. They don't like that arrangement, as someone else opened the box, but he held them at gun point. Guy who Pinhead was torturing revealed to by OG, and he's kinda pissed, wants his revenge. BB gets hooked, but his father shoots him dead. BB says thank you - but Pinhead takes the mother instead. Father dies due to hobo related injuries.

Anyway - this is kinda cool. Except it was made quickly, mostly without style, and new Pinhead sucks. But it's getting to real premise of this. Which is: Cenobites are not evil. They do not punish wickedness. They give you what you think you want, if you take that next step. It's not even punishment necessarily. Angels to some... And they will not be ripped off.

I'll talk about Judgment soon as well, as it was interesting,
