Getting neat stuff in games

I was inspired to make this thread by some of the discussion in the Bloodstained sequel thread.

So what is some of your favorite neat stuff to get in games? And how do you like to get neat stuff in games?

Now your definition might vary but to me neat stuff is:
  • Something the in-game character(s) can use/equip/wield.
  • Is more or less permanent (until replaced or swapped with something else).
  • Provides some benefit (but might also have some drawbacks).

Hmmm...
  • Hookshot
  • Airship
  • Shield Rod
  • Hadouken (MMX)
  • Kuribo's Shoe
That's my list of neat things acquirable. None of them fit this defintion, but I love when neat things come from rare drops, and more importantly I will enjoy a game substantially more if there are ways (even suboptimal) to improve frequency of rare drops. That's probably an underrated reason why despite my completionist tendencies I love most Igavanias

I really like the Ice Missiles in Metroid Fusion. They're a neat twist on the standard power-ups, and it makes a lot of sense narratively.

I love in rural life sims (Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon) when you get the upgraded farm tools that let you plow and water big blocks of field instead of doing it one at a time. LOVE IT.
